What Hosting Advice Did Drew Carey Give Ryan Seacrest?
Clearly, Ryan Seacrest is no stranger to hosting as he has had a few jobs where he was that was his main gig. He hosted Live with Kelly alongside Kelly Ripa and has been with American Idol since the beginning. Additionally, Ryan has his own radio show so this is in his blood. Come September 2024, Ryan will be the new Wheel of Fortune host which comes with a lot of pressure. He is now taking the reins from Pat Sajak who has been the face of the game show since 1981.
This is a lot of pressure for Ryan as he has to make this transition seamless and wants to make sure fans still want to tune in. Now, Drew Carey has been in his position when he took over The Price is Right from the legendary Bob Barker. Coming from television and a sitcom, Drew knew he had huge shoes to fill and it may not be easy. With that in mind, what advice did he share with Ryan Seacrest? According to The Sun, Drew has been asked by ET if there was any advice he may want to tell Ryan ahead of starting at Wheel.
Drew Carey thought about it and responded with this:
“Do I have any advice for billionaire Ryan Seacrest? Who hosts everything all the time? No.”
Clearly, Drew knows that Ryan is more than capable of excelling at whatever hosting gig that is set in front of him. He has proven this time and time again but it was sweet to see Drew making light of it all, in his own way telling Ryan that he would be fine. Drew went on to say:
“Bro, I think you got it. I think you know what to do. You’re going to be fine.”
A Hard Act To Follow
As aforementioned, Drew Carey knows exactly how Ryan Seacrest feels having to fill such big shoes. Pat Sajak is a hard act to follow just as Bob Barker was. Drew took over hosting The Price is Right in 2007 but in 2023 opened up about what a class act Barker was:
“[Bob] was so good at this. He was so good at relating to people and getting them to be relaxed, and be themselves. You watch his demeanor and his attitude. He never seemed stressed.”
This was something that could be challenging yet Drew has done an amazing job and hopefully, Ryan will step into his new role with ease.
