Is Ryan Seacrest not the fans’ top pick to replace Pat Sajak as the host of Wheel of Fortune at the end of Season 41? Pat announced that he was retiring in June 2023 but shared he would be staying through Season 41. Then, Ryan was revealed to be the one filling his shoes. Yet, is there someone better out there? Keep reading for more details.

Ryan Seacrest Not Top Pick For Wheel Of Fortune Fans

It made sense to have Ryan Seacrest come in and take over for Pat Sajak who had been hosting Wheel of Fortune since 1981. He has been hosting various shows for years. These include American Idol, his own radio show, and Live With Kelly. So, this was just a natural progression and he will start in September 2024. Vanna White has signed a contract to keep her turning letters through 2026 which will keep some familiarity for diehard fans. Of course, there are some viewers who are not thrilled with Ryan as the new host.

Though he seems like a great pick for the job, that is not always the case as seen in a recent Reddit thread that was started. The OP wrote this:

  • I don’t know if he was in the running for Pat’s replacement, but I think Joel McHale (Card Sharks) would have been a great pick…

Joel McHale does have the experience as he hosted The Soup on E!, The 2014 White House Correspondents’ Dinner, and House of Villains. Plus, he has an acting and comedic career under his belt so he is very well-versed. So, what did Wheel of Fortune fans think of this hosting proposal or were they Team Ryan Seacrest?

  • Joel McHale is snarkier than Pat friggin Sajak. He’s not a good fit for Wheel’s audience.
  • As much as I’d like to see Joel a lot, he’d have to tone his act down so much for Wheel, then everybody would say how boring he’d become, much like Drew on The Price is Right.
  • Joel is a quick wit and Ryan is too robotic. I would prefer Joel over Seacrest.

All For Ryan

Though one person did deem Ryan Seacrest “robotic,” the general consensus was that he was the better fit. They felt Joel McHale may be too snarky and that was something they wanted to get away from. For some time now, Pat Sajak had been slightly rude to contestants. It had trickled over to the staff because they were apparently ready for him to leave. So much so that they did not even want to give him a farewell celebration. Ryan appears to be much more lighthearted so time will tell if he is the right fit.

Are you excited for Ryan Seacrest to host Wheel of Fortune or do you think they could have chosen better? Let us know in the comments.

  1. Yeah I won’t be watching Wheel after 41 years. Personally, I can’t stand Seacrest. Bad choice on someone’s watch. I can’t believe that Seacrest was the best they could come up with. Oh well. I will have to find something to do for that half hour.

    1. Not crazy about Ryan Seacrest would not be my pick lacking in humor.
Vanna should have taken the job and Maggie should take over for Vanna. Makes me think they are saying a woman can’t do Pats job.
will check it out and go from there!

  2. Yes, I feel the same and will need to find something better to do during that 1/2 hour
Vanna or Maggie would have been much much much better choices! Those decision makers for Wheel must have very narrow paths of thinking and choices, although I have presented two here, right off the bat!

    1. I agree. I like Ryan but he does not have the personality for Wheel. I, also, believe Maggie & Vanna would be the best choice.

  3. I have not watched other shows Ryan has hosted. Now I won’t be watching Wheel so much, if at all. Just like I stopped watching Dancing with the Stars when Tyra Banks started hosting.

  4. Have watched Wheel for many years, but won’t much the new season. Don’t Care for Ryan Seacrest. He has a very poor personality. Should have picked Vanna as host and Maggie to turn the letters.

  5. I am looking forward to seeing Ryan Seacrest as the host. I think he will do a good job and hope people give him a chance.
