Mama June Going To Court With Chickadee’s Ex Over Custody
After Anna ‘Chickadee’ Cardwell died, Mama June reportedly took custody of her 11-year-old daughter Kaitlyn. According to June, this is what Kaitlyn wanted. However, Anna’s ex-husband, Michael Cardwell is suing her mother for custody of the child.

Mama June served with papers from Chickadee’s ex-husband
On December 22, just weeks after Anna ‘Chickadee’ Cardwell died and only three days before Christmas, Michael Cardwell hired a process server to find Mama June and serve her with papers. Michael is fighting her for custody of Kaitlyn. More so, Radar Online reports that the proof of service was filed in court on December 28. Mama June now has to respond in court.
Mama June knew that the papers were coming because Michael already said he was filing for custody of Kaitlyn. On December 18, TMZ reported that she said she would fight in court to keep her granddaughter. The big problem with this case is that Michael is not Kaitlyn’s biological father. Michael and Anna shared a younger daughter, Kylee. Kaitlyn’s biological father has never been part of her life.
In his filings, Michael said he took on the role of Kaitlyn’s father over the years. Furthermore, he said that they fostered a father-daughter relationship over the years. He added that he has been paying for Kaitlyn’s education. Michael also claims that Anna was supportive of him continuing the role as Kaitlyn’s father even after they separated.
Mama June wants to become Kaitlyn’s legal guardian
Mama June claims that Kaitlyn made it clear she wants to live with her and her husband, Justin Stroud. She said that allowing Michael to take custody would be “against her wishes.” At the age of 11, the courts will have to decide what is best. Additionally, they will likely speak to Kaitlyn to see if the various comments are true about her wants and desires.
Mama June said she would fight this in court to gain custody of Kaitlyn. However, Michael has also brought up some old wounds. June was estranged from her daughters and Anna had only recently reconciled with her mother. Michael pointed out that Chickadee and her mother had long periods where they were not even speaking and her presence in Kaitlyn’s life was “inconsistent.”
Mama June said that this is just hurting Kaitlyn by putting her through this. Michael, on the other hand, claims he wants what is best for Kaitlyn. He said that he supported Kaitlyn her entire life and June is not the best person to raise the child.
