American Idol fans have accused the show of changing its format to ruin the experience of watching the singers compete. There are several points of contention for fans that have caused some to tune out. Here is what fans are saying about the show and how it has ruined their enjoyment of the reality singing competition.

American Idol rushing to the finale

One of the biggest complaints this season is that American Idol is eliminating large batches of characters at once. This takes away the enjoyment of seeing the singers develop and win over fans as the season wears on. It is a similar complaint to what The Masked Singer did in the last two seasons. On that show, only one person moved on each week and two went home.

This took away the fun of watching singers returning to fight for the next round. On American Idol, the eliminations were even more jarring. On Reddit, one fan wrote, “I loved this season initially but since we hit the top 20 I feel like they’ve just been getting rid of talent in droves and it hasn’t been as enjoyable for me.”

Other fans agreed that this season made it hard to really enjoy the singers because of how fast they went home in the live voting rounds. One mentioned that the live voting is shorter now, making it harder for fans to feel invested in the singers. This season, the cuts went from 26 to 20 to 12 in one week.

On April 16 and April 17, there were six eliminations. The next weekend, eight people went home. Another Redditor wrote, “I miss idol from back in the day. When they had the top 12, and only one contestant went home each week. Those were the days!” Another said that they could have cut back on Hollywood Week and given more time to the fans’ voting for the singers. This is not new, though, as this is the way the competition has been for the last six seasons since moving to ABC.

In just two days, the American Idol Top 12 dropped four singers from the competition, including two people the judges saved the week before. That was when fans showed anger at Nutsa and Lucy Love moving on.

Fans not happy with American Idol format overall

The fans have spent much of the season angry at different aspects of American Idol. Many fans have slammed Luke Bryan, Lionel Richie, and Katy Perry for being “too nice” to the singers and not offering good advice. At the same time, other fans have slammed Katy for being “too mean” to the singers and seemingly insulting them.

Other fans complained about the studio audience being too loud in their cheering, making it hard to hear the talking. Other complaints were the basic ones about fans calling the show rigged when their favorites ended up eliminated. The most recent saw fans that were angry that people voted through another country singer instead of We Ani.

  1. i am sick to death of people coming from orher countries when its supposef to be AMERICAN IDOLS. NOT WORLD IDOLS.!!! Sure rmtjere ate great singers ftom other countries but PLEASE DO NOT CALL IT AMERICAN IFOLS WHEN IT CLEARKY IS NOT!!! START ANOTHER ONE LIKE, WORÖL D IDOLS OK!? AND I AGREE THAT THE CHANGE HAS PRETTY MUCH RUINED TJE ORIGIONAL SHOW. VERY VERY SAD. OH WELL I JUST WATCH THE VOICE NOW AND OTHER GOOD PROGRAMS THAT DON’T IRRITATE ME. STILL LOVE IT BUT VERY DISAPPOINTED!

    1. We Ani should win it all, but unfortunately she is gone. Iam stands in one spot throughout his entire performance and every song sounds the same. Yet K Perry tells him he is going to win. Yet they tell other singers how good their stage presence is, and their dance moves are great, yet it is okay for Iam to not move at all. Final two should be We Ani and Colin. I liked Zachariah a lot also. May not watch at all next season.
