Pat Sajak Can’t Console Contestant After Huge $100K Loss
While Wheel Of Fortune host, Pat Sajak, has over four decades of experience, he still runs into situations he doesn’t know how to field. In a recent episode, he admits he doesn’t know how to console a contestant after his huge loss.
Pat Sajak Still Gets Caught Off Gaurd
Although Wheel Of Fortune host, Pat Sajak, only has one week left of hosting, the final few episodes bring their challenges. At times, it is easy for Pat to declare they will keep the money, but other losses sting a bit more. For instance, when second-chance contestant Larry missed out on $100K, it was hard for Pat to console him. Notably, Larry was a fan-favorite on his first appearance so it was even more difficult to see him miss the big money.
Larry Waves Goodbye To $100K
With only one word wrong, Larry regrettably waved goodbye to $100K. During the Bonus Round on Wednesday, Larry picked the category “Phrase.” Then, the board showed four words. Wheel Of Fortune gave Larry R, S, T, L, N, and E. He adds his selected consonants: B, M, D, and vowel: A. After filling the board, it read, “_’M __ST S____N_ ___.” Trying to beat the buzzer, Larry guesses, “I’m just showing out” and “I’m just spending out.” Although very close, he didn’t discover the correct answer in time. As the timer runs out, the audience reacts with groans and disappointment.
Then, the solution appears on the board, “I’m just showing off.” Admittedly, so close, Larry exclaims, “Don’t do it! Don’t do it!” Notably, mad he missed it by one word, he shouts, “Come on!” Self-soothing, Larry reminds himself, “Alright. It’s ok.” Larry reframes the positives of the situation while talking it out with Pat Sajak. He adds, “I’m back for a second time. I believe in second chances.” But the loss stings even more when it is a large sum of money left on the table.
Pat Sajak Struggles With Consoling Larry
Pat Sajak opens the envelope and cringes while showing Larry first and then the audience he lost out on $100K. Confronted with the reality of the amount of money that “could have been,” Larry lays his head in his palms and walks away. He says in disbelief, “Don’t you do that!”
Understandably, seeing Larry experience the gut punch of his tiny mistake, Pat Sajak isn’t sure how to console him. But in Pat’s normal fashion, he finds something to say. He states, “Well, I’m not exactly sure why or how I can console someone who just won over $34,000.” Although he acknowledges that Larry is still a winner, he recognizes, “But, I know that hurt and you were so darn close.”
Fans Are Sad To See Larry Miss The Extra Money
When talking with Maggie Sajak, Larry brings up the sad loss. Although she admits she wasn’t going to bring it up, Larry takes it in stride. Still regretting his error, he says, “Off not out. That will live with me forever.” However, he still believes dreams come true on Wheel Of Fortune. On Instagram, several fans sent caring messages to Larry after Pat Sajak revealed he didn’t get the $100K prize.
- “$100,000 Heartbroken,” one fan comments.
- “I’m still recovering. It’s a process,” someone else says.
- “Seeing that envelope hurt a lil bit, but you did so well.”
- “Wish he would have won.”
- “I was sad about that $100,000 loss I thought you would’ve gotten confetti at first.”
