“Having so much fun planning and dreaming about our honeymoon in May to Italy…flying into Rome, spending a few days in Tuscany and then heading down to Sorrento and the Amalfi coast,” she captioned the post. The 70-year-old added, “I’ve been to Italy twice, once when I was 18, and again to visit my daughter when she studied abroad there.”

Gerry and Theresa’s Italian getaway was a gift from ABC. It was announced in the Golden Bachelor finale that their honeymoon would be completely paid for by the network.

However, everyone was surprised when the couple announced their divorce on Friday, just three months after the “Golden wedding.”

What Happens To The Golden Bachelor Honeymoon Now?

“Theresa and I have had a number of heart-to-heart conversations, and we’ve looked closely at our situation, our living situation and so forth, and we’ve kind of come to the conclusion mutually that it’s probably time for us to dissolve our marriage,” Gerry Turner said in a joint interview with Theresa. The news broke on Good Morning America.

They said that the distance between them is what ultimately led to their decision to split. The Golden Bachelor couple said they didn’t fall out of love, they simply couldn’t make their living situation work for them.

“We looked at home after home, but we never got to the point where we made that decision,” Theresa opened up in the interview. The couple expressed that they hope that their divorce doesn’t put any other older individuals off of dating.

“Don’t give up,” Theresa Nist said. “Stay in it. Stay hopeful. ‘Cause we are.”

At this time, it isn’t clear what will happen with the Italy honeymoon. It is assumed that Theresa and Gerry won’t go on the trip and ABC will recover their losses.

The Golden Bachelorette is set to premiere this fall. While it’s not clear which of Gerry’s suitors will be the Bachelorette, fans are looking forward to more 60 and 70-somethings looking for love.
