Hoda Kotb Opens Up About Daughter’s Health Emergency
Today anchor Hoda Kotb admitted one of her daughters had a recent health emergency. Since the girls are so young, this news came as a shock to most fans.
In a new interview, Hoda bravely chose to discuss adjusting to life as a caregiver for her sick child. As fans can imagine, it’s completely transformed the way the family operates.
Hoda Kotb’s Family Life Has Completely Shifted
Many Today fans remember that Hoda Kotb was missing for several episodes in February 2024. Many speculated that she might be away on vacation or taking a much-needed break. In actuality, she was attending to her youngest daughter, four-year-old Hope.
The little girl was admitted to the hospital for an undisclosed reason. However, Hoda shares that it was a very serious situation. Hope even spent some time in the ICU.
“We had a scary stretch,” Hoda admitted to PEOPLE. “Any parent who’s been through a scary thing with their child understands. It’s like you just can’t believe that your child’s sick. You can’t believe that there’s nothing you can do. You can’t believe that no matter what you do, you can’t will it away or protect her, or all the things that we’re supposed to be doing as parents. And it’s a position I’ve never found myself in.”

Since Hope is so young, Hoda chose not to delve into the details of her illness. Thankfully, Hope got to come home from the hospital. But even then, her health journey wasn’t over. Now, Hoda and her family are managing Hope’s illness at home and providing the care she needs.
The Today Anchor Wants To Shield Her Daughters From Worry
Based on the interview, it sounds like Hope’s condition is chronic, and could potentially follow her for the rest of her life. But even so, Hoda is determined to give her daughter the best life possible. She’s doing everything in her power to protect the little girls and shield them from fear.
“I’m not going to put my worry on her. It’s too much for a kid to carry,” the Today anchor continued. “Even just always saying, ‘How are you feeling? You feeling good today, honey?’ is saying, ‘I’m worried,’ because you’re not saying that about your other child. I’ll be discussing how it’s going with the nanny, the nurse, whoever, and if she’s there, she’s like, ‘Am I okay?’ I’m trying so hard to let her be a kid and not have all of the grown-up worries.”
Thankfully, many of Hoda’s coworkers from Today have stepped up to help. In the PEOPLE interview, she discussed how Al Roker and Savannah Guthrie visited and entertained the girls so Hoda could attend to other matters.
