Matt James & Rachael Kirkconnell Didn’t Let Social Media Ruin Relationship
Matt James will go down in history as the first Black male lead on The Bachelor. His season aired in early 2021, at the height of a racial reckoning following George Floyd’s death in 2020.
Unfortunately, James’s season was overshadowed by front-runner Rachael Kirkconnell’s previous off-screen behavior.
Photos surfaced online of her attending an antebellum-themed college party in 2018. The parties are marred in controversy because they seemingly celebrate the era of slavery in the South.
However, by the time the photos surfaced online, Season 25 of The Bachelor had completed filming, and Matt James had chosen Rachael Kirkconnell as his final rose winner. He didn’t propose, but the two left the final rose ceremony as a couple.
They briefly broke up due to the public’s reaction to the photos. But their split was short, and they’ve been together since April 2021.
They recently bought a home together.
Rachael Kirkconnell Pens Heartfelt Post To Matt James
Despite social media playing a role in their brief breakup, Rachael Kirkconnell and Matt James share aspects of their relationship on their respective social media accounts.
Matt James often shares the most unflattering photos of his girlfriend, usually involving food. It’s clear from their social media that they love food and travel.
To celebrate her boyfriend’s 32nd birthday, Kirkconnell took to Instagram to make it clear that she loves him, too.
The graphic designer created a video of sweet and silly moments in their relationship. And yes, some of them involve food.
In a heartfelt caption, Kirkconnell pays tribute to her “best friend.”
Kirkconnell began by revealing how they spent the day. “Currently snuggling on the couch watching star wars, just had some homemade pasta, haven’t left the apartment all day, and baked cookies for his birthday cake. This is how Matt wanted to spend his birthday if that tells you anything about him.”
She went on to praise her boyfriend, writing, “You are good, you are kind. You appreciate the little things. You’re creative. You are the funniest person I know. You’re my everything 🙂 Happy birthday to my very best friend. Love you so much it hurts!!!”

In a reality show crossover, Little People, Big World star Tori Roloff dropped the comment, “Never have I ever been so invested in a relationship other than my own. I love you two.”
There were several comments mentioning an engagement, but Matt James and Rachael Kickconnell aren’t rushing down the aisle.
