‘RHOSLC’ Whitney Rose Loses Close Friend Shari Quai To Cancer
Season 4 of The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City is airing on Bravo. However, this season has been exceptionally difficult for one of the show’s stars. Whitney Rose has lived out the loss of her friend of two decades on screen and it’s caused some problems with other cast members as well. Keep reading to see how things have unfolded for Whitney.
Whitney Rose Faces Tragedy On RHOSLC
In April 2023, Whitney Rose lost her friend Shari Quai after a battle with Stage 4 colorectal cancer. The pair had been friends since they were 23 years old and Shari had appeared on episodes of The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City before.
Fans of the show may recall seeing Shari in Season 1. She attended Whitney and Justin’s vow renewal ceremony. Shari also went to a 1920s-themed party of Whitney’s in Season 1.
As Season 4 unfolds, viewers have watched Whitney deal with the loss of her friend in real-time. In an episode called “Icy Apologies,” Whitney Rose talked about how her long-time friend had been intubated.
Unfortunately, Shari Quai passed away on April 26, 2023, at 41. Her obituary stated that “her spirit of celebration every day of her life and left an indelible mark” during her battle with cancer. Shari’s daughter, Eve Rose, preceded her in death.
The next day, Whitney Rose took to Instagram to share her thoughts on the passing of her good friend. In addition to expressing her grief, Whitney praised Shari for her dedication to her husband and family.

“I write this with tears in my eyes not only because I will miss you deeply, Shari, but because you added so much beauty and love to my life,” Whitney wrote. “It is so rare to find a friend like you, and I am forever blessed that I did. I love you, my soul sister, in this life and beyond. I love you.”
Shari’s Death Causes Friction On RHOSLC
Although she wasn’t a huge part of the show, Shari Quai’s death caused friction between Whitney Rose and Lisa Barlow in Season 4. Whitney was aware that her friend’s life was coming to an end.
“I was with her on Monday, and she couldn’t even get off the couch,” she said during the RHOSLC episode. “I’m worried. I think we’re losing her. When I sat with her, that’s what we talked about – how she knows death is here.”
Whitney Rose attended Meredith Marks’ launch party for Plated by Meredith Marks shortly after learning that Shari died. When she got there she noticed that Lisa Barlow hadn’t mentioned anything about her loss. Considering Lisa was a close friend, Whitney was hurt by Lisa’s actions or lack thereof.

On top of that, Lisa came to the event with a present for Heather Gay but nothing for Whitney. This led her to confront Lisa, who said she didn’t know how Whitney grieved and didn’t know how to help her through this.
The RHOSLC said that it sounded like an excuse and didn’t let Lisa Barlow off the hook. Lisa was then caught on a “hot mic” saying “F*** this” as she walked away from the conversation.
