Anna ‘Chickadee’ Cardwell Cancer Terminal

When it was announced that Anna ‘Chickadee’ Cardwell had stage 4 cancer, fans were visibly shocked. No one had seen or heard much from her in a long time. Anna had opted to stay away from reality television after Here Comes Honey Boo Boo was canceled. Furthermore, she and Mama June had become estranged so it made sense that she would want to stay home and live somewhat of a normal life. She got married and divorced plus was raising two children. However, she was still somewhat in touch with her Aunt Doe Doe and her sisters.

Then, it came out that she had adrenal carcinoma cancer, stage 4. It had spread to her kidney, liver, and lungs. Anna Cardwell was undergoing chemo and had started to lose her hair. In a twist, she appeared on Mama June: Family Crisis as June’s secret weapon since none of her other girls were speaking to her. Therefore, she needed one of her kids to come through for her bridal shower. However, Anna had just had surgery and was clearly in pain. June has since shared that she is moving back to Georgia from Alabama to be there for Anna and her kids.

In an interview with ET, Mama June opened up about what is going on with Anna. She has done four rounds of chemo and has other options but is still weighing them and if they are right for her. Yet, June admits that this is extremely hard. “For me, it’s an emotional rollercoaster sometimes. Mentally it’s always on my mind. We know it’s terminal,” June explained. Additionally, June added: “She’s stage 4. She’s not gonna go into remission. We’ve all accepted that, so I just tell people one day at a time ’cause you never know.”

How Is Anna Coping?

Despite this struggle, both Mama June and her other daughter, Lauryn ‘Pumpkin’ Efird shared how Anna Cardwell is coping. Pumpkin explained that her older sister can still go out and do everyday things. This includes bring her children to and from activities. She did note that Anna has lost pretty much all of her body hair but that has not stopped her at all. As for Anna’s children, it is her 10-year-old who is really understanding what her mother is going through. She gets that this is serious and time could be fleeting. In the end, Pumpkin is hopeful that, because medicine is ever-evolving, something may become availble to help Anna out sooner rather than later.

Are you surprised that, even though Anna is terminal, she is still doing her best and managing everything like a champ? Let us know and watch the season finale of Mama June: Family Crisis Friday on WeTV.
