Where Is Kelly Clarkson On ‘The Voice’ Season 22?

Kelly Clarkson on The Voice

The Voice returned to NBC on Monday night, and there was one huge change from the past few seasons. Three of the coaching chairs have been consistent for the past six seasons. This included Blake Shelton, Kelly Clarkson, and John Legend. However, there was one chair that saw lots of people come and go.

A big change came in Season 22 as Kelly Clarkson is gone and many fans want to know why. Here is a look at where Kelly went and why she is no longer on The Voice this season.

Why did Kelly Clarkson leave The Voice?

Kelly Clarkson is the most successful coach in The Voice history. She hasn’t won as many seasons as Blake Shelton, but she has won in 50 percent of the seasons she competed on the show. Kelly even won the show last season with Girl Named Tom, and she would have been the defending champion heading into this season.

Kelly Clarkson just wrapped up her divorce and she has clarified that she wants to spend more time with her children. She mentioned taking time off from work and devoting more time to family. However, her talk show took the spot of Ellen DeGeneres’ talk show as the top show on daytime television. That meant that she chose daytime over The Voice. She could still return in the future, but for Kelly Clarkson, she has other priorities.

Who are the coaches on The Voice this season?

Blake Shelton and John Legend both returned to The Voice this season, the only two returning coaches from last year. Blake is the only coach who has been on The Voice every single season since its debut. Heading into his 22nd season on the show, Blake is an eight-time champion. As for John, he joined in Season 16, his only win coming in that first year on the show.

Gwen Stefani has returned, and logistically, she will replace Kelly Clarkson. That is because Gwen has been on the show several times in the past. She coached in Seasons 7, 9, 12, 17, and 19. She only won one of those seasons, but that was in her last appearance in Season 19 when she led Carter Rubin to the crown.

Camila Cabello is the other newcomer. She worked on the show as a mentor for Team Kelly in the past. Now, she gets her chance at coaching. She replaces Ariana Grande as the face of younger music fans. NBC just has to hope that Camila’s fans will show up more than Ariana’s did. Grande’s fans didn’t even vote for her singers and she had no singers in the finals.
