‘The Voice’ Season 22 News: Who’s Coming Back?

The Voice Season 22 is airing sometime this year. It’s predicted that it will return during the Fall 2022 television season. It’s the first time in its 10-year run that the singing competition is not running two cycles in the same year. The show wants to shift its focus to producing one high-quality cycle per year.

Meanwhile, viewers wondered if their favorite coaches would return. Season 21 included Blake Shelton, Kelly Clarkson, John Legend, and new judge Ariana Grande. Earlier this year, rumors swirled that Blake may not only leave the show but also hang up his music career. While NBC hasn’t made an official announcement, there is some news about The Voice Season 22.

Two coaches confirmed, one returning

According to the latest news surrounding The Voice Season 22, two coaches have been confirmed. Per MJsBigBlog, Blake Shelton and John Legend will return to the show. For the first time in years, Gwen Stefani will sit alongside her now-husband. After Season 19 of The Voice ended, the No Doubt singer released her first solo single in years, “Let Me Reintroduce Myself.”

She also worked on a new album at that time. Season 19 was filming at the same time as Season 19 was ending. The reason why Gwen left the show is that she was working on her new music during that time. She couldn’t pull double-duty. Now, that she finished her upcoming album, she’s ready to return to the red chair.

Where’s Kelly Clarkson?

However, Kelly Clarkson is missing from Season 22 of The Voice. It looks like she won’t be part of the Fall 2022 cycle. This comes after the American Idol alum told Elvis Duran on Thursday, May 11 that she wants to take time off this summer.

“I turned 40 and… you know what I’m giving myself for 40?” Kelly told Elvis. “I literally said NO to everything this summer. I will not do anything this summer… I am taking time.”

For the fall cycle, The Voice films the “Blind Auditions” in June. That requires several weeks of shooting. The cast will reunite in August to shoot promos for the upcoming season. Then, they will attend interviews and events ahead of the September 2022 premiere.

The Kelly Clarkson Show will go on hiatus for the summer season. That break will start at the end of May. She’s gearing up for her new reign of daytime television as she takes over The Ellen Show’s timeslot in September. She also just finished filming American Songwriting Contest with co-host Snoop Dogg.

The Voice coaches announce their return

Blake, Gwen, and John announced their return to The Voice Season 22 in a special way. They filmed a TikTok video that shows them using the new popular music meme, which is a snippet of “Grace Kelly” by Mika. The caption reads: “#duet with his if you’re going to be a coach on #TheVoice this fall.”

In the video Gwen posted to TikTok, all three coaches sing the song. Blake has been a part of The Voice since its premiere in 2011. Gwen has coached 7, 9, 12, 17, and 19, while John coached seasons 16-21. Kelly sat through seasons 14-21.
