Kelly Clarkson did a face plant on national television. The singer missed the mark when it came to one of her songs. In a video that’s going viral on social media, Kelly fell to the floor after guest Anne Hathaway recognized one of her hit songs. The WeCrashed star made an appearance on The Kelly Clarkson Show on Tuesday, March 22.

The two played a fun game of “Sing That Name That Tune.” Kelly usually kills it during a segment like this. However, she went blank when one of her signature songs played. Hathway was the one who immediately recognized the beat and stepped up to the mic. Clarkson collapsed to the floor in defeat.

Anne Hathaway recognizes this Kelly Clarkson hit

Kelly Clarkson asked the band to play a song that she recognized. So, they played her hit song “Since U Been Gone.” However, she didn’t recognize it. Anne Hathway busted out in song from the moment the song played. Meanwhile, Kelly Clarkson dropped to the floor in embarrassment for not recognizing that song.

Hathaway was gleeful over her win. She was already tearing up the competition. The star rubbed her win in the American Idol alum’s face. Clarkson stood there in shock. Eventually, she dropped her microphone.

“How did you know it from just that?!” an exasperated Kelly Clarkson asked.

“Kelly Clarkson, if you do not understand how much we all love that song,” Anne Hathaway responded. “Everybody here knew it on the first one. Everybody here knew it.”

The crow roared. Clarkson joked: “Should I just quit?” Hathaway admitted that she loves “Since U Been Gone.” It seems like she’s sung this song in a karaoke bar or bedroom before. Clarkson admitted defeat, adding, “This is embarrassing.”

Hathway also beat her when it came to recognizing “Piano Man,” “MMMBop,” and “Under Pressure.” The former theater actress is good at “Name That Tune.” It sounds like Clarkson has finally met her match. However, some would argue that Clarkson would outsing anyone.

The story behind “Since U Been Gone”

Kelly Clarkson recorded the iconic song from her second studio album, Breakaway. The smash-hit dropped in 2004. It was released as the lead single from the album just two weeks before the album’s release. Most fans will recognize this uptempo beat, which is a combination of rock and pop.

It also features electronic sounds that combine both soft and loud power pop. Producer Max Martin wrote the song for the pop star Pink at the time. But she turned it down. Hilary Duff also rejected the song because she couldn’t reach the high notes.

Ultimately, Kelly Clarkson ended up with the breakup song. Clive Davids convinced the writers to give it to her. She added guitars and drums to the beat and made it her own. The song is about a woman who expresses her sense of relief over a relationship ending. Take a step back to 2004 and listen to the song below.
