Why Is ‘The Voice’ Not Returning This Next Season Cycle?

The Voice Season 21 just wrapped up filming in December 2021. However, the show will not come back from its hiatus. Normally, the singing competition would return to TV in January. According to a new report, fans may have to wait to see their favorite coaches again.

This comes amid the rumors that Blake Shelton could leave the show. As TV Shows Ace previously reported, the country singer expressed an interest in a similar kind of life with his wife Gwen Stefani. The couple wants to bow out from the limelight as they embrace their new life in Oklahoma.

So that means that Season 22 of The Voice won’t return anytime soon.

Why Season 22 of The Voice is not returning in January 2022

This month is the perfect time to kick off Season 22. However, it may take some time to see your favorite coaches again. The show typically runs two cycles per year. That means there are two seasons per year, which is why it has so many seasons under its belt. NBC has not announced when Season 22 will return.

Normally, it would premiere in January 2022. The network wants to embrace change, as it introduces new shows. In May 2021, NBC announced that they plan to move the show to one cycle per year.

“Going into the 21st cycle in the fall, The Voice remains one of the most popular shows on television and we want to keep it that way,” Frances Berwick, the Chairman of Entertainment Networks, NBCUniversal Television, and Streaming, said, as per Deadline. “We want to eventize this iconic series. We think The Voice will be on NBC for a very long time to come and we believe the best way to protect the brand, while also super-serving fans is to produce one amazing cycle this year.”

Season 21 premiered in September 2021. It featured Blake Shelton, Kelly Clarkson, and John Legend, and new coach, Ariana Grande. She replaced Nick Jonas, who was a coach in Season 20. Ultimately, Team Kelly’s Girl Named Tom ended up winning Season 21.

Kelly Clarkson scores another win

The American Idol alum is on a hot streak. She previously won the competition in Seasons 14, 15, and 17. As you can see, this is her first win in years. Girl Named Tom made history as the first non-solo act to win the show. They also became the first non-solo act from the show to top the charts.

The trio consists of siblings Bekah, Caleb, and Joshua Liechty. In an interview with Entertainment Tonight, they reflected back on that moment. Caleb admitted that he was “speechless” when they won. He says that their journey has “been amazing, the outpouring of love from the fans. That’s something we’re gonna take with us forever.”

  1. I love the Voice. My favorite is Blake, he brings wit and professionalism to the show. Hes the real deal. The other coaches are good, but if he leaves the voice I probably won’t watch again. It wouldnt be the same.
    He a class act.

  2. We want Blake Shelton back the show want be the same. You can’t take the show off the air we love the Voicr. It is bad enough we want see it but one time a year !!!!!!.

    1. I look forward to watching this every time it comes on and I look that it comes on 2 times a year it makes the show better than any other show and yes Blake Shelton does make the show and Kelly together is really good but now ya’ll want to take it off to one time a year no I don’t like that because I love this show and ya’ll r going to mess it up well that is what always do with the best shows

  3. I think Nick Jonas needs to return to the Voice for Season 22. He’s a great coach, definitely a lot better then Ariana Grande

  4. oh, GAWD please don’t remove the Voice to once a year only and definitely not without Blakey!!! I love the banter between all three and John LEgend is amazing and Kelly is good and I love the third rotating coach…but I probably would no longer watch if there was no Blake. He is the King. We need the Voice back twice a year, people!!! NBC stop fooling around and make this happen.

  5. I’m going to miss Blake if he doesn’t come back. I guess it all depends who’s going to replace him, I might continue to watch the voice or not. But who’s to know I still love the voice.

  6. Please come back, Blake, and keep John and Kelly as they are all AWESOME together! What an entertaining show! I can’t believe NBC is changing the routine! Every time I love a show, the Network changes it and ruins it!!

  7. I love Blake and might not watch without him. He is so genuine and intertwines the whole panel so easily and professionally. I also love John Legend and Kelly and the rotating judges. They are all brilliant with their evaluations, support, and encouragement to the contestants! Please keep “The Voice” on, and preferably twice a year. I will miss it so much!

  8. I love Blake and I miss Gwen the two made the show come alive, but I know they have a new wonderful life ahead of them and that’s priceless.

    1. I think change sucks but if that’s the way it has to be then so be it as at least their not taking The Voice off
      the television for good.

  9. So disappointed that the voice did not return in January I look forward to the fall when the voice returns Please don’t leave Blake you make the show of judges

  10. While we don’t know what is in their contracts – if Blake is eligible to leave – I can say if Blakes gone, I’m gone. I think Gwen wants him around more too. Their daughter needs more daddy time and Gwen perhaps has some things she’d like to do. Kelly is great, I love her attitude and fun side but she has a lot on her plate with her talk show and other productions she has going on and her children as well are getting older; Kelly probably wants to spend more time with her son and daughter so, I would wager this might be her last season too.

  11. I’ll stop watching is Blake leaves. I don’t like John Legend. The only reason I kept watching was because of Blake. Although I did have to turn off the voice a few times because John Legend is all about himself.
