Mandy Moore dishes on the future of the film franchise
The Drew Barrymore Show hosted Mandy Moore recently and of course, the Princess Diaries came up. It’s been 20 years since she played mean girl Lana Thomas. So it’s only natural to think that Lana might have grown up a little bit.
That’s when Mandy Moore revealed that she would love to play Lana again and believe that the character has “done a 180.” On the talk show, Moore revealed that she believes Lana and Anne Hathaway’s character Mia are actually good friends in 2022.
But is a third Princess Diaries film actually happening?
“I have no idea,” the This Is Us star confessed. “I have heard nothing about it.”
For now, Walt Disney Pictures hasn’t said anything to confirm that there will be a Princess Diaries 3. But fans can only hope. Even 20 years later, it’s still widely considered to be a classic by many fans.
Julie Andrews told The Hollywood Reporter this summer that she doesn’t think a third film would be possible now that director Garry Marshall passed away.
“There was talk of a sequel many, many years ago. But I don’t think it ever came to pass,” Andrews told the publication. “[For] especially me, it’s too far down the line now to go back to it.”
What’s next for the actress after This Is Us?
Now that This Is Us has officially wrapped up, fans want to know what’s next on the horizon for the TV family. Right now, rumors about a potential film are circling around.
“I say no to nothing,” show creator Dan Fogelman told Variety. “If we can figure out a movie and can get together with [the cast] again in a few years, I’d love to. I don’t know what it would be because we close out our story in the series finale.”
As Fogelman noted, one of the biggest barriers would be getting all the stars, including Mandy Moore, to be available. The cast has gone on to land other projects and have fruitful careers on the silver screen. However, fans hold on to hope that it will all come together.
