Cheryl Burke and Matthew Lawrence married in 2019 after dating on and off for years. But lately, they seemed really happy. Cheryl even recently made a joke in an interview that Matthew has a bizarre collection of exotic reptiles at home. The reptiles didn’t seem to be her favorite, but she spoke fondly of him.
So where exactly did the divorce stem from?
Fans might not get the answers they are looking for. Cheryl posted on Instagram and asked for silence during this difficult chapter.
“I know I have always said that I’m an open book with you guys, I do strive to be, and in writing this I’ve realized there isn’t really an easy way to announce that my marriage is ending. I hope you can understand that I will not be commenting any further at this time and am asking for understanding and privacy,” the 37-year-old dancer wrote. “Thank you all for all the kind words & support you’ve given me – love you all. xx Cheryl.”
Boy Meets World star Matthew Lawrence isn’t very active on social media, so we may never get an answer from him either. Maybe in time we’ll hear more, but for now, Cheryl just wants fans to respect their privacy.

Cheryl Burke has been sober for years but admits she does struggle with it now and then. In the past, she cited her husband Matthew as one of the biggest champions of her sobriety. Fans really hope she doesn’t suffer setbacks now that they’re splitting up.
In previous interviews, Cheryl discussed how she had many abusive relationships in the past. She found love with Matthew Lawrence because he broke that pattern and seemed to be great for her.
“Looking back, I honestly think that the first relationship I ever had that did not fit this abusive pattern was when my now-husband Matt and I dated the first time around, back in 2007,” she said in a video on her own YouTube channel. “I honestly think at the time when we first dated, I didn’t clearly love myself enough to think that I deserved to be with someone who was actually nice to me. And I was just wrapped up in this new get-out-of-jail-free card, L.A.-party lifestyle, whereas he had already kind of been there and done that, since he grew up in this industry.”
Before this major life news emerged, Cheryl did say she wanted to come back for Dancing With The Stars Season 31 this fall. Hopefully, her divorce won’t change her decision. Professional dance seems to make Cheryl so happy. She and her partner Cody Rigsby finished in 3rd place this year, which was a pretty big accomplishment.
