Birdie Brown - Alaskan Bush People | episode screencap

On Sunday night’s episode of Alaskan Bush People, Birdie Brown made the toughest decision of her life. She traveled back to Alaska with her brother Noah, as he searched for a new home for his wife and kids. Once she reached Mosman Island, Alaska, she opened a letter from her mom.

Here is what she read in the letter and the decision she made on Alaskan Bush People.

Birdie goes back home to make life altering decision

Birdie was going with Noah from one location to the next in Alaska as he searched (unsuccessfully so far) for a home to move his wife and kids into so they could experience what he did growing up. However, through the entire trip, Birdie only had one thing that she wanted. Her mom Ami wrote her a letter when she began to fall into a depression over her dad’s death from last year.

She had to wait until they reached Mosman Island to read it. While Noah had no home there to look at, he stopped there for his sister. She went to a ledge over the water, right outside the woods, and read the letter her mother wrote to her. The letter was a sweet one with her mom reminding Birdie of who she is on the inside and letting her know that she should always trust herself.

This is when Birdie made her life-altering decision.

Birdie’s journey on Alaskan Bush People

Birdie planned to go to Alaska with Noah so she could open the letter while he was on his trip looking at properties. However, their trip was stalled when Birdie learned she had two tumors she needed removed. She didn’t want to go to the doctor because she was scared it would be bad. Luckily, Rain forced her to go and she got the tumors removed.

Birdie learned there is a good chance that the tumors could return and they could end up cancerous next time. The only way to lessen the chance they could return is a full hysterectomy. That meant that Birdie had to choose between a possible family in the future or protecting herself from cancer.

Through the trip, Birdie watched Noah interact with his son and it really meant something to her. After reading the letter from her mom, she came to a decision. Birdie decided she wants to have the possibility to have children in the future. She chose to decline the full hysterectomy so she can possibly have a chance for kids. She also knows that could mean cancer in her future, but she said that she had to do what her soul told her was right, calling it the “Brown Way.”

  1. Birdie .. I can understand you wanting a family but consider the possibility of cancer and leaving a child behind without a mother.. there are plenty of babies and children that need a loving home .. adopting a child would provide as much love from a family as a natural born child .. remember family doesn’t have to be blood .. family is about the love we hold in our hearts

  2. There’s also freezing her eggs and having a viable. Jan e Kate to carry a child or use a surrogate with her own eggs. As a Cancer survivor I causation anyone who knows the probabilities not to take it seriously but with all of the options these days she doesn’t need a man to have a bay and she could have one later if she freezes her viable eggs. Whatever she decides I will pray for her .

  3. Can’t tell anyone what to do but cancer is too scary, been there. I’d freeze some eggs and get the hysterectomy. I wouldn’t gamble with my life. Wishing her the best!

  4. Dearest Birdie: I have survived ovarian cancer with a 100% death prognosis for over 10yrs now. Mine is only a miracle per Dr.-Not science. Had basketball sized tumor & all my organs were covered in it. Drs said I would not live thru night in ER. I had 3 cardio pulmonary embolisms which they could not find where they went in my body but evidence on PET scan. Freaked Drs & hosp out. My son fought, really fought to force Drs to operate . Need I say I am an extremely devout Christian as are you. My dear, please do Not play with your life as ovarian cancer is usually a death sentence as they never catch it early. Get surgery & chemo. You can freeze eggs or adopt as other ladies are telling you. You are having many trials but, stay faithful to the Lord as I know you are. If you want to contact me, let the people handling these msgs know. I will speak to you as a Christian one to one. My love & ,prayers to you love. Kathy
