Peta Murgatroyd will return to Dancing With The Stars Season 31 this year. Over the summer, many of her fans weren’t sure that she would make it back. The 36-year-old dancer said she was determined to have another child and was trying everything in her power to get pregnant. She and her husband Maks Chmerkovskiy even tried IVF when they were unable to conceive on their own.

Sadly, Peta updated fans in August and said that the IVF treatments hadn’t worked. However, she vowed not to give up. She told followers she knew she would get to have another baby someday. But for now, she’s going back to the ballroom.

It’s been a difficult few years for Peta, but she’s so thankful for DWTS. Read on to see how the show helped her heal from her emotional pain.

Peta Murgatroyd’s family has been through a very difficult year

Peta Murgatroyd surprised fans this year when she bravely came forward and opened up about her tragic miscarriages. She revealed that she’d been through three in the past few years. One even happened during Dancing With The Stars Season 29.

It’s been an incredibly difficult thing to process, but Peta just can’t wait to get back into the ballroom and compete. It’s become her happy place amid the chaos and pain.

“So much has been going on in the past year and a half with Maks and myself and our family,” she told the press at a DWTS press conference. “Maks was in Ukraine with the war and then me with constant miscarriages, and now one failed [round of] IVF.”

After IVF didn’t work, Peta admitted she was starting to feel a little lost. And she realized that dance always helped her feel more alive than she ever had been before. It was easy for her to come back to the stage.

“It was the best decision I’ve made because I’m not stressing now,” the dancer continued. “It’s not ‘Oh my God, am I pregnant?’ The constant worry about when the second baby’s going to come. I think it’s taking my mind off it and I’m doing what I love with a great guy.”

Maks takes over full-time parental duty during DWTS this year

While Peta and her partner Jason Lewis compete, her husband Maks is at home with their five-year-old son Shai. He started Kindergarten this month and it was a very emotional time for both Maks and Peta.

“He’s such a proud daddy right now,” Peta continued. “He’s on full daddy duty — no nannies, no grandparents around. It’s all him right now. He’s doing a really good job there.”

The couple does hold onto hope that they’ll grow their family. But for now, young Shai makes them incredibly proud.

Stay tuned for more on Peta Murgatroyd, Maks Chmerkovskiy, and the rest of the DWTS family. The new season kicks off on Disney+ starting September 19, so stay tuned.
