Andrew Cuomo previously served as the governor of New York State until he resigned in 2021 amid sexual harassment allegations. The NYC mayoral race was hotly debated on social media. Even President Trump shared his thoughts that chaos would ensue if Zohran Mamdani won.
But the people of NYC spoke and elected the Democrat as their new mayor. The candidate previously spoke out in support of defunding the police, but has since backed off from that platform.
Harlem Mother Of Four Stabbed To Death In Home
Overall, violent crime rates have decreased in the U.S. However, that doesn’t make it any less tragic when a murder or other violent crime occurs. A woman in Harlem, New York, is dead after being stabbed to death in her own apartment building.
The NYPD was called to an apartment building in Harlem in the early hours of Monday, November 10. They came upon a disturbing scene. Carmen Lopez, 47, was found dead by the elevators with multiple stab wounds to her torso. A neighbor in the building told the investigators that she was a mother of four who had lived in the building for years.
“She was a great mother and a great human being. She loved our family, and she loved life,” the victim’s sister, Lucy Lopez, told the New York Daily News. “We don’t know how to start over.”
Suspect In Custody, Allegedly Jealous Ex-Boyfriend
A 41-year-old man has been arrested as the prime suspect in the murder. PEOPLE magazine reported that Luis Marquez was taken into custody after showing up at a hospital in a nearby neighborhood. He allegedly had cuts on his hands and was wearing clothing that witnesses tied back to the crime scene.

While police have a suspect in custody, they don’t have a clear motive. Sources close to the police department told the outlet that they believe the suspect is the victim’s ex-boyfriend and that he killed her in a jealous rage. A witness claimed they heard the victim say, “Stop, Luis,” during the attack. Another witness said they saw blood “everywhere.”
