A former St. Louis, Missouri, news anchor is being accused of stabbing and killing her elderly mother. This all went down on Friday, October 31st, 2025, but was there a motive behind this? Keep reading for more details on this tragic and horrific situation.
Missouri News Anchor Stabs & Kills Elderly Mother
Tragedy struck Wichita, Kansas, when an eighty-year-old woman was stabbed. She then subsequently passed from her injuries the same day she was found injured. On Friday, October 31st, 2025, authorities found Anita Avers unresponsive. She was located in her bed after having been stabbed several times, but her daughter was standing outside Anita’s home when the authorities showed up. Anita’s child was a former St. Louis, Missouri, news anchor named Angelynn “Angie” Mock, 47. She had been on television for four years, starting in 2011. Her career as an anchor came to an end in 2015 when she entered the world of sales.
Both Angie and Anita were taken to the hospital. Unfortunately, Anita succumbed to her injuries and passed away. As for Angie, it is unclear what led her to seek treatment, but she was soon brought over to the jail and held on a one-million-dollar bond. Furthermore, she was charged with first-degree murder, but no motive has been released as of now. Plus, her future court appearances are being held under lock and key. However, authorities are investigating all sides of this tragedy in an attempt to obtain answers.
It is clear from the former Missouri news anchor’s headshot and mugshot that a lot has changed over the last decade. Angie is virtually unrecognizable, and her actions may have taken her former followers aback. Now, it is just a matter of time before the reason for this horrific crime is revealed. Those who followed the story saw Angie’s before and after photos. They immediately attributed the shift to mental health issues, yet that has not been addressed.

Those who are following this story are convinced that the former Missouri news anchor has mental health issues. In their professions, they have seen the same shift from happy and peppy to dragged down to nothingness. Therefore, they think that is what led Angelynn “Angie” Mock to stab her mother. However, nothing has been confirmed regarding why she would do such a thing. Still, people are speculating, which is normal for a case such as this:
- I’ve seen that change in people from left photo to right photo having worked in corrections, and I would say most definitely mental health, if not drugs and/or alcohol.
