Senate Reaches Deal To Reopen Federal Government
The federal government shut down in late September when the Democrats and Republicans in the Washington, D.C., Senate couldn’t reach a funding deal. The shutdown was the longest in history at 42 days. Amid food shortage concerns with millions of Americans not getting their SNAP funds, a deal was finally reached.
After the Democrats refused to budge for over a month, seven Democrats and one Independent broke ranks to vote to end the shutdown. The Democratic Party had been holding out for the Republicans to agree to extend the healthcare subsidies for the Affordable Care Act.
However, the agreement to end the shutdown came with only a promise to vote on that specific issue at a later date.
The View Hosts Debate Democrats Caving
The View‘s hot topics were especially hot on Monday amid news of the deal. Alyssa Farah Griffin and Sara Haines firmly sided with the Republicans. However, the other hosts, Whoopi Goldberg, Ana Navarro, and Sunny Hostin, weren’t happy that the Democrats ‘caved’ without getting anything in return.
Sara Haines argued that the Democrats finally gave in so that federal employees, including Air Traffic Controllers, would finally get paid. However, Whoopi Goldberg pointed out that there was already a law on the books that ensured the workers would get back pay.
“So the fact that the Democrats traded in their vote to get federal workers working again is ludicrous. Let the courts do their job,” Sunny Hostin vented.
Ana Navarro Goes On Scathing Rampage Against Own Party
Ana Navarro has been a Republican for her entire life. However, she voted Democrat in the last few elections. She’s a staunch critic of President Trump and the current administration.
“If people drop out of insurance, not only will it be the death of Obamacare, it will [also] be the death of Americans because people will not go get screenings,” Ana Navarro said on Monday’s episode.
She added, “People will get diagnosed with later stages of cancer and this will cost lives.”
“We must demand better starting with Donald Trump,” Ana Navarro declared. She pointed out that the current administration sent $40 billion to Argentina but refused to fund SNAP benefits. Furthermore, the budget bill included tax breaks for the ultra rich.
“Donald Trump is Nero playing the fiddle while America burns,” Ana Navarro stated.
