5 People Shot Outside California Grocery Store
Supermarkets used to be a safe haven from violence, but not anymore. A shooting outside a California supermarket left five people injured, with several in critical condition. Ironically, it was at the local Safeway. Keep reading for more on the shocking incident.
Safeway Closing Multiple Stores In The U.S.
Safeway is one of the most common supermarkets in the western United States. A few of the stores are in the Maryland and Virginia area, but not very many. The popular grocery store is part of the Albertsons company brand.
Safeway announced in September that it was closing ten stores in Colorado, Nebraska, and New Mexico due to poor performance. Eight of the closing stores were located in Colorado.
“We continuously evaluate the performance of our stores, and occasionally, after long and careful deliberation, it becomes necessary to make the difficult decision to close certain locations,” the grocery chain said in a statement reported by USA Today.
California Supermarket Shooting Leaves 5 Injured
Stealing merchandise used to be the most common crime in supermarkets. But gun violence has become all too common in grocery stores. Ten people were shot and killed in a supermarket in Colorado in 2021. A year later, ten others were killed at a Tops Friendly Markets store in Upstate New York.
A shooting outside a supermarket in San Francisco, California, left five people injured, including four teenagers. Police responded to the area around 9 P.M. on Saturday, November 8, after multiple reports of gunshots.
When the cops arrived, they found multiple victims near a Safeway grocery store. According to the local news, the victims included four teenagers and one adult. They were all rushed to the hospital. The man had life-threatening injuries and is in critical condition. The police didn’t share any information on the injuries sustained by the five victims.
Little is known about what led to the shooting. The police haven’t arrested any suspects. However, they believe the shooting happened after a fight. The cops assured the public that the situation isn’t a threat to public safety.
San Francisco Mayor Speaks Out
The San Francisco police are still investigating the shooting. One neighbor was shocked that violence came to the area. “This is super shocking to see, we’ve never had anything remotely like this happen here, it’s a pretty safe and sleepy suburb neighborhood,” the resident told ABC 7 News.
San Francisco Mayor Daniel Lurie released a statement following the supermarket shooting. “This kind of violence does not represent who we are as a city, and we will never tolerate it,” the Mayor said.
The quiet neighborhood was rocked by the violence. One bystander told the local news that they hid behind a log in the Golden Gate Park after hearing the gunshots.

Why is it called “GUN VIOLENCE” when it is PEOPLE who are doing the violence & using a gun, if they did not have a “gun”, do you think that would stop a VIOLENT person who wants to do harm to an innocent person? NO! IT WOULD NOT! a VIOLENT person will use anything they can get their hands on to harm or kill another person. Why is a GUN blamed and NOT THE PERSON who is using it. Hold the person RESPONSIBLE and not the gun. Guns DO NOT have a life of their own, they cannot move on their own or even think on their own! The human is RESPONSIBLE for their OWN ACTIONS, NOT the weapon they chose to use. STOP Blaming the weapon and START BLAMING/HOLDING the HUMAN who is violent responsible and GET THEM off the streets instead.

When violence occurs, the first question most people ask is what type of weapon was used. If it’s a homicide, people want to know, “How were they killed?” It’s human nature to seek “easy” answers first. Asking what kind of weapon was used is one of the easiest questions to answer, that’s why violence stories and articles always include the type of weapon, followed by the word “violence.” Hence, “gun violence” is a simple way to communicate that something violent occurred and a gun was used by the perpetrator. Later, more information gets reported as evidence gets collected and then you’ll hear more about the person who committed the violence. But this article just calls it “gun violence” because it just happened today, and it’s too soon to report detailed information about the incident accurately.
