American Idol must replace Katy Perry at its judges table for the next season. While cast members have ideas for who they want to join the show, fans have an idea of a perfect addition. The newest idea is that someone that Idol snubbed in the past yet who became a major star should join to help the next batch of hopefuls.

Here is who fans want to see step into Katy Perry’s chair on American Idol next season.

American Idol Fans Want Maren Morris As Judge

When Katy Perry announced she was leaving American Idol, fans began dream casting her replacement. Names like Jon Bon Jovi and the first Idol winner, Kelly Clarkson, topped many fans’ lists. However, a new name has popped up that would be ironic to say the least.

It has been 17 years since Maren Morris tried out for American Idol. However, after her audition, producers told her they weren’t interested in moving her on and sent her home. Now that she has built a great musical career despite this rejection, fans think she could be the best replacement for Katy Perry.

If there is anyone who can sympathize with the contestants and know what they are going through, it is someone that producers turned away 17 years ago. It isn’t that she would go easier on the, which no fan of the show wants, but she would understand that sometimes a person just needs a chance.

Now, it seems some fans feel that Morris would be the best fit to return to the show that shunned her and make sure she helps others avoid the same fate.

Maren Morris’s Failed American Idol Tryout

Maren Morris went to audition for American Idol in 2007 when she was only 17. She sang “Sweet Thing” by Chaka Khan, and she said producers turned her down in just a matter of seconds.

Morris auditioned for all the shows, including The Voice, Nashville Star, and America’s Got Talent. Every single one rejected her. This made her decide to make her own name, which ended up as her best bet. Kacey Musgraves convinced Morris to move to Nashville, and she began writing songs for other singers (including Kelly Clarkson).

Morris released a self-titled EP in 2016 on Spotify and it had 2.5 million streams. This helped her sign with Columbia Nashville, and her  EP charted at number 22 on the Billboard Country Albums chart. Her last three albums all charted on the Billboard 200 (Hero at #5, Girl at #4, and Humble Quest at #21).

“Honestly, the poetic justice of that whole thing is that now people audition with my songs on those shows. I just get the check in the mail,” Morris said.

Do you think that Maren Morris would be a good replacement for Katy Perry on American Idol? Would it be a good fit? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below.
