There is a new 9-1-1 spin-off series is coming. The news series is 9-1-1: Nashville, and it looks like a beloved new star is returning to the franchise with Connie Britton. While many fans are still angry about 9-1-1: Lone Star‘s cancellation, bringing back a beloved star might make it sting less. It also might help Nashville get a lot more eyes on it from the start.

Here is what we know about Connie Britton coming back to 9-1-1.

Connie Britton Returning To 9-1-1: Nashville

9-1-1: Nashville is the latest spin-off series from 9-1-1, coming to ABC after the network chose not to move on with 9-1-1: Lone Star, which it left on Fox and canceled. While Lone Star was canceled, 9-1-1 continues on ABC, and now a third show is coming. According to Ryan Murphy, the cost for Lone Star didn’t work, so they are going with a new city and cast.

However, it sounds like an original cast member might be making her way back to the franchise, but in Nashville. Connie Britton played Abigail Clark on 9-1-1‘s first season. When Tim Minear, the 9-1-1: Nashville showrunner, talked about the new series, he was asked about Britton (via Decider).

“Yeah, actually!” Minear said. “Her name came up yesterday, and I’m like, ‘Maybe we just bring that character back to life? We just say Abby has a twin sister, and we thought she was dead, but she’s really not!’”

Abigail Clark was a dispatcher and appeared in the very first 9-1-1 episode. She begins dating Buck (Oliver Stark) but eventually leaves after her mother’s death and wants to experience the world. She made a big return to the show when she was in a train wreck in the third season. This allowed her and Buck to wrap up their relationship storyline.

What To Know About 9-1-1: Nashville

The first thing to note is that Tim Minear is working as the showrunner for 9-1-1: Nashville. Minear is a four-time Emmy nominated television creator who previously was one of the main writers on Joss Whedon’s Angel, Firefly, and Dollhouse and moved on to work with Ryan Murphy on American Horror Story and the original 9-1-1.

However, as for Connie Britton’s return, it sounds like Minear is just throwing out random ideas, and there are not actually any plans for a return at this time. However, 9-1-1: Nashville EP Angela Bassett added that Connie could return anytime she wanted. “It’s always like, Connie, open door, whenever you want to come back,” Bassett said.

9-1-1 has not forgotten about Abby. In season 8, the show mentions that Buck’s ex-boyfriend Tommy (Lou Ferrigno Jr.) was once engaged to Abby. However, outside of Tim sounding like he would love to have Connie back in the franchise, that is just speculation for now. At the moment, all the news indicates is that the hunt for a cast is underway, and the show will arrive in the 2025-2026 season, so expect news shortly.
