Soap opera legend Susan Lucci, best known for her iconic role as Erica Kane on All My Children, recently made headlines by revealing that she was approached to be the first Golden Bachelorette. However, the 77-year-old actress ultimately decided to pass on the opportunity.

A Surprising Bachelor Nation Fan

Despite spending four decades in the world of daytime drama, Lucci confessed that she’s a recent fan of the Bachelor franchise. Her interest in the show makes her consideration for The Golden Bachelorette slightly less surprising.

The daytime icon isn’t the only Bachelor Nation fan. Kris Jenner and her daughter, Kendall, are huge fans of the show. In fact, they have an unexpected encounter with Golden Bachelor Gerry Turner in an upcoming episode of their reality show, The Kardashians.

Susan Lucci Reveals Why She Turned Down Golden Bachelorette

Rumors swirled in February that the soap star was in consideration for the Golden Bachelorette spinoff. Susan Lucci confirmed the rumor herself during a recent chat with PEOPLE magazine. “I believe that they contacted my publicist and it wasn’t for me,” she revealed.

An insider denied to the outlet that the soap star was ever offered the role.

Lucci’s decision to turn down The Golden Bachelorette comes after a significant period of change in her personal life. In 2022, she lost her husband of 52 years, Helmut Huber. The opportunity to join the show may have represented a chance for a fresh start, but it seems Lucci has chosen a different path.

While Lucci won’t be handing out roses anytime soon, ABC eventually found their star in 61-year-old Joan Vassos. Vassos was a contestant on Gerry Turner’s season but made an abrupt exit early in the season due to a family matter.

And she can count on Susan Lucci as a viewer. “I’m a fan. I love watching,” the soap star said. The Golden Bachelorette premieres on ABC this fall. It will air on Wednesdays with 90-minute episodes.

Susan Lucci’s revelation serves as a reminder that even the most unexpected celebrities can find themselves drawn into the Bachelor Nation orbit. While she may not be looking for love on reality TV, her fans will undoubtedly support whatever path she chooses next. Perhaps that All My Children reboot teased by Kelly Ripa a few years ago?
