‘Gold Rush: White Water’ Is The Crew Getting Paid?

Gold Rush: White Water Season 8 premiered in March and Discovery Channel fans watched the team work in dangerous conditions, but do they get paid? If they find gold, that’s great, but do they draw salaries or earnings per episode if they don’t hit the jackpot? Read on to find out.

Gold Rush White Water Crew Changed

Over the years, the core team changed a bit. For example, in 2023, Discovery Channel fans found out that Kayla Johanson left. For her, there was just way too much drama and not enough gold. So, she quit and went to make her way on YouTube and with jewelry creation. Does that mean that filming hurt her pocket? Of course, that makes viewers wonder about the rest of the crew getting paid.

In 2022, Gold Rush: White Water fans saw that Dakota Fred Hart stepped back from the dangerous and complex task of extracting gold from the rivers in Alaska. Dustin took over, and other regular crew members, Paul and Wes Richardson, and Carlos Minor remained. In Season 3, James Hamm joined the crew. And then, in Season 4 viewers met Scott Allen.

Does The Discovery Channel Team Get Paid?

There were disappointments and disasters, and one of the saddest was that Dakota Fred Hurt died. At the time, people were invited to make donations. Are they that broke? With the arrival of Season 8, it’s no wonder that fans think about salaries and other income. Still, there were moments of great excitement, and some gold was recovered from the rivers.

According to a report by Meaww, the Gold Rush: White Water crew can make money from “endorsements, public appearances, and merchandise sales.” However, they also receive the profits from any gold they find. Furthermore, it seems that nobody’s struggling to put food on their table. The outlet explained:

It is estimated that cast members earn between $10K and $25K per episode…The compensation structure often includes a base salary per episode, ensuring that the cast members are remunerated for their time and participation, irrespective of the outcomes of their mining ventures.

As fans on Reddit noted, the team could probably use a per-episode income, because it looks like a lot of hard work for little return. The OP wrote:

I love the show but have you ever seen a group of more delusional people in ur life?

In the comments, it became clear that Gold Rush: White Water fans agree there’s not a lot of money in the dangerous job:

  • “Life changing amount of gold!”… proceeds to pull out one nugget after two months to split between five people.
  • 7 years to find ONE big ass nugget = about 50 cents an hour. Definitely not worth risking your life for.
  • The show is paying them even if they find nothing, so I take things like this a lot less seriously. It’s not reality and there just so happen[s] to be a camera crew and production people there… it’s a show.

What are your thoughts about Discovery Channel paying the crew? Do you agree that they probably need it as the total value of gold found over the years doesn’t amount to all that much? Sound off in the comments below, and come back here for all your Gold Rush: White Water news.
