‘The Conners’ Prepare For Possible Series Finale
Hit ABC sitcom, The Conners might be preparing for a possible series finale at the end of Season 6. Though the show still does quite well and has a loyal fanbase, the future is up in the air. So, what is going on behind the scenes? Keep reading for more details.
The Conners Prepare For Possible Series Finale
When reboots became the popular thing, Roseanne hopped on the bandwagon and brought back her iconic eighties and nineties ABC sitcom. It was all about the average family trying their best to get by. Sure, they made some risky investments and their kids took chances they did not expect. In the end, there was a lot of love, quirkiness, and laughter. After an awful final season, Roseanne returned in 2018, over two decades after the final episode aired. It did relatively well and was able to clear up all of the things fans did not care for in the OG series finale.
Unfortunately, Roseanne herself made some extremely inappropriate comments and had to be let go by ABC. The future of the show was uncertain so they rebranded it The Conners, had Roseanne pass away, and navigated life without her. Now, six seasons later, it is still somewhat of a fan favorite but sadly, this season could be the last. According to The Sun, none of the cast has received Season 7 contracts and Deadline added this:
“In years past, the actors, who have been on one-year deals from the start, would have been just about done negotiating new contracts by now, paving the way to a renewal, which inevitably followed. This time, the focus has been on renewal negotiations. If they are successful, I hear The Conners will likely be picked up for a seventh and final season.”
EP Bruce Helford shared that the show is ready for whatever way the wind blows: “We’ve got a final episode that may be one or the other.” He added it is “emotional” and “unexpected.” One thing that could impact renewal status is the upcoming time change. The next few episodes will continue to air on Wednesdays at 8 pm but come May 1st, it will switch to 930 pm.
Fans Are Ready For Season 7
Though Season 6 of The Conners could potentially be the last, fans are not ready to give up so easily. They have started a Reddit thread expressing how much they want the series back for just one more year:
- Ratings may be a bit down but as far as i can tell, it is still one of ABC’s top rated comedies. I predict it will have a 7th season. Besides, considering that it is one of ABC’s top comedies, what are they going to replace it with?
- It’ll be a bummer if it’s not renewed
- I love Roseanne the show and the person but I also love seeing how theses characters are doing
