‘American Idol’ Fans Slam Judges For Being Too Harsh
American Idol fans have been less than impressed with some of the decisions the judges have made so far in Season 22. Choosing Kayko over Abby Blake to move into the Top 24 had fans heated. Then, when the judges decided to axe American Idol hopeful Ziggy Krassenberg, viewers were up in arms once again. Now, they think the judges were too critical of another fan favorite. Here’s what they are saying.
Julia Gagnon Landed A Platinum Ticket
Like many of the other contestants on American Idol, Julia Gagnon auditioned in Nashville. She sang “Ain’t No Way” by Aretha Franklin. After some consideration, the judges decided to give her a coveted Platinum Ticket, which allowed her to bypass Idol Arena.
She performed alongside the other two Platinum Ticket winners, Abi Carter and Odell Bunton Jr. during the Idol Arena episode. They sang a stunning rendition of “California Dreamin'” by the Mamas and the Papas. She didn’t have to sing to compete again until this week.
Julia Gagnon sang in Honolulu, Hawaii for her chance to progress in the American Idol competition. The April 7 episode was the first that fans throughout the country would be asked to vote for their favorite contestants who they wanted to see get into the Top 20.
Fan-favorite Julia Gagnon sang “Rumor Has It” by Adele. There is no doubt that she nailed the low tones and she astounded many viewers at home. However, the judges had some critical words for her about her performance.
Were American Idol Judges Too Critical Of Julia?
Katy Perry said that she was impressed by Julia’s vocal range. While she liked the last note, Katy said that she felt the singer had too much vibrato in her lower tones. Luke Bryan told the contestant that he should be proud of her performance.
Tori Kelly told Julia, “I would love to see even more of the emotion of the song come out.” Lionel Richie, on the other hand, said that he’d like to see the singer work the stage a bit more.

Fans don’t agree with what the American Idol judges had to say though. A number of people took to Reddit to discuss their thoughts on Julia’s performance.
One viewer wrote, “really liked this from julia, idk what they’re talking about not “performing” enough.” Another person commented, “Since this is Katy’s last season, I feel like she is being more critical of the performances this season.” A third person chimed in, “Katy is f*****g killing it with the critiques !” Yet another viewer wrote, “Julia definitely the best vocal so far tonight, she does a lot of interesting stuff to make it her own.”
All in all, fans didn’t think Julia got the response from the judges that she deserved.
A new episode of American Idol airs tonight at 8 p.m. EST on ABC.
