Alison Sweeney Explains Why Cameron Mathison Is Not Returning To Hannah Swensen Mysteries

Does Alison Sweeney have an explanation for why Cameron Mathison is not returning to the latest Hannah Swensen Mystery? Speaking to TV Line, Alison was asked about the “on and off-camera reasons” for Cameron’s absence. The reason for the character’s departure is that he is training for the FBI in Quantico.

Firstly, Alison confirmed, “That was the decision we made for Mike because I come from a soaps background and I love the philosophy of ‘never say never,’ so you never know where Mike will turn up next.”

Next, she added, “I love Cameron and I wish him all the best, but he decided to pursue a different career path.” What she did not say is that back in November, Mathison signed a contract with Great American Family, as well as is going to be a game show host. Both are in addition to his role on General Hospital.

Now that Cameron is gone, was his role recast with Victor Webster?

Is Victor Webster A Recast Of Cameron Mathison’s Mike Kingston?

One big question Sleuthers will want to know when they watch Alison Sweeney in the upcoming Hallmark Mystery One Bad Apple: A Hannah Swensen Mystery is whether Cameron Mathison’s character Detective Mike Kingston was recast with Victor Webster.

In an exclusive TV Shows Ace interview, Alison Sweeney revealed that she is “not a big fan of the recast.” She also pointed out that they are both very different men. Therefore, it made no sense to recast Victor as Mike. Instead, she scoured Joanne Fluke’s novels and found the perfect guy.

Firstly, she thought about a character named Ross. However, in the books, this “was a romance going terribly wrong.” Next, she found prosecutor Chad Norton. The thing about Chad is that he is a prosecutor, but Joanne Fluke did not share much information about him. Sweeney revealed that “I like that he is involved in the crime-solving process.”

Therefore, Alison, who wrote this script, her very first, could mold him into an interesting character. His work is from a different point of view. Moreover, he is someone who is concerned with evidence-based clues. Chad is not so easily persuaded to exchange information for some baked goods. He promises to bring something different to this long-running Hallmark series.

As for Cameron Mathison, Ali confessed, “I went through all the same feelings that the fans went through as it all unfolded.” But, when Hallmark suggested that they bring Victor Webster to the series, she was excited and exclaimed, “I want to make it happen!”
