Alison Sweeney is a beloved Hallmark star who has made a cornucopia of romcoms as well as two fan-favorite mystery series. Her latest mystery, One Bad Apple: A Hannah Swensen Mystery premieres on Friday, April 5, on Hallmark Mystery. As Cameron Mathison has gone to another network, Victor Webster has joined the series that was originally called Murder She Baked.

However, there is a group of fans who miss her other mystery series, Chronicles Mysteries with Benjamin Ayres. Has this series been canceled? Here is the surprising answer, as well as the theory that it would be too confusing for Sleuthers to star in two mystery series.

Is It Confusing For Sleuthers To See Alison Sweeney In Two Hallmark Mystery Series?

Alison Sweeney has been promoting her upcoming Hannah Swensen Mystery, One Bad Apple. She spoke to Eric Rutin of the Hallmark Mysteries & More podcast to promote this mystery. However, the conversation also went to Chronicles Mysteries.

Firstly, Eric asked if this mystery series had been canceled. Alison responded, “As far as I’ve heard, it’s not officially canceled.” She then explained the reason why there has not been a new movie in a few years.

I don’t disagree with Hallmark, but in the world of mysteries, it’s probably confusing and weird to have me star in two different mystery series.

Although Eric did assure her that this would not confuse Sleuthers, Alison shared that she is so happy to make the movies that fans are asking for. There is no doubt that Sleuthers love her character Hannah Swensen. But she did say, “I love the story of Alex and Drew.” There are many fans of Alex as well.

Alison Sweeney Already Has Idea For Another Chronicles Mystery

Alison Sweeney wound up with two mystery series by accident. Nearly a decade ago, she starred in Murder She Baked. That series mysteriously halted in 2017 with the movie Just Desserts. Then, on August 8, 2021, the then-named Hallmark Movies & Mysteries premiered Sweet Revenge: A Hannah Swensen Mystery. This was a re-branding of the Murder She Baked series.

However, in the four-year hiatus of portraying Hannah Swensen, she was busy developing another project. Alison, along with her long-time writing collaborator Melissa Salmons created Chronicles Mysteries based on a true-crime podcaster named Alex McPherson. Ali created this series based on her love of true-crime podcasts. Joining her was Benjamin Ayres as Drew Godfrey. The fifth and most recent Chronicles Mysteries was Helped To Death. That premiered on February 21, 2021. So, it has been three years.

But Alison has ideas for more, but she is in no hurry. “So, I’m happy to be focusing on Hannah and have Alex ready for whenever, whenever they need her.”

  1. I love both of these two series and I would not be confused at all. I do miss some of the other series there were also. Maybe they can bring some of them back as well.

  2. I love both series and wouldn’t find it confusing to have both running at the same time. I would also like to see Garage Sale Mysteries come back.

  3. My sisters and I are hooked on both of these two shows. We are constantly watching them over and over again and never getting bored!
We have been trying to find out when we could hope to have new episodes. We hope that Hallmark will continue these two shows as they are our go to watch shows. We like shows where we can follow along and try to figure out who did it! Keep up the great working and please keep these two shows as they are our all time favorites!!!
