Britney Spears Cited In ‘Where Is Wendy Williams?’ Court Case
A+E Networks fought for the docuseries called Where Is Wendy Williams? to air and they cited Britney Spears’ conservatorship as a good reason why it should. When Sabrina Morrissey, the guardian of the former talk show host tried to prevent Lifetime from airing it, she lost, and it premiered as planned. In fact, the ratings from the show that aired on February 24 and 25 were excellent.
Where Is Wendy Williams? Aired But It Was Disturbing
An initial court order seemed promising for the guardian but it was overturned. Many people believed that she only decided against it because it showed her in a poor light. However, the court-appointed guardian also felt that A & E Networks only showed the bad side of the former star’s life, making it a “cruel’ documentary on Lifetime.
Wendy Williams’ fans were disturbed when they watched the show. Regina Hall complained on behalf of the TV star that the guardianship created problems. In fact, she alleged that even buying food was hard to arrange. So, she claimed, at times she would wait for hours, meaning that “Wendy wouldn’t have any food.” Guardianship issues were a reason why Lifetime felt the show should air.
Lifetime’s Producers Cite Britney Spears Conservatorship
On March 21, People revealed the contents of some unsealed documents from the court. According to the outlet, they received them directly “from Mike Ford,” the executive producer of the docuseries. Britney Spears sat under conservatorship for 13 years, and there have been other stories about how the court appoints guardians. Notably, the sister of the talk show host, Wanda, was keen to take over as guardian, but that never happened.
Citing the documents, the outlet noted Ford felt the guardianship of Wendy Williams was “a matter of particular public importance.” Next, he talked about Britney Spears whose conservatorship “sparked enormous debate about the power wielded by court-appointed consecrators and guardians.” As for cruelty, well, attorneys all signed off on it, and before her dementia became obvious, so did Wendy.
On a side note, it’s interesting to learn that the guardian, Sabrina Morrissey, her company, and other attorneys faced accusations of “baseless guardianship” for someone named Jose Verdugo. Allegedly, they did all they could to prevent Jose from gaining access to his money. So, they face a lawsuit of $30 million. That doesn’t mean that the guardian has done wrong with Wendy but it does highlight questions on the way the courts appoint them.
