2024 kicked off with the exciting news that Steve Burton is returning to General Hospital after three years. Amid major losses and shakeups on the daytime soap, fans are wondering when to expect to see him back on screen. Keep reading to find out what we know about his return date.

Big Changes At General Hospital

General Hospital is one of just four soap operas remaining on television today. With the constant threat of cancellation looming, it seems the head honchos will do what they can to keep the show on the air.

The soap has been a revolving door of exits and temporary recasts. But fans of the sudser received some surprising but welcome news during the soap’s 60th-anniversary special.

With the help of Laura Wright (Carly) and Kelly Monaco (Sam,) Steve Burton announced his shocking return three years after being fired for refusing to comply with the network’s vaccine mandate.

“When one door closes, another door opens,” the ladies said before Burton came out from another door.

So, when exactly does the door open for his return to the soap?

Steve Burton Reveals General Hospital Return Airdate

Steve Burton hosts a podcast with Bradford Anderson, who plays Spinelli on the ABC soap. Burton spoke about his return on a recent episode of the Daytime Drama podcast.

His return to the soap is happening quickly. He told listeners that he returns to the set “next week” to begin filming. Unlike Days of Our Lives which films six months ahead, GH films 4-6 weeks ahead of when the episode hit the screen.

Soaps.com guestimates that Steve Burton’s return to General Hospital will air at the end of February Sweeps.

Is Jason The One Terrorizing Sonny?

True soap fans know that it’s unlikely that Steve Burton will return immediately as the “Stone Cold” Jason they’re familiar with. When fans last saw Jason Morgan, he was presumed dead after a tunnel collapse.

However, no one is ever truly dead on soaps. GH fans speculate that Jason will return with amnesia. Jason’s bestie/mob boss, Sonny Corinthos (Maurice Benard), recently found himself under gunfire in a surprise attack.

Could a brainwashed Jason Morgan be the trigger man? What will the new headwriters do with Jason/Steve Burton?

Soap fans will have to keep watching to see how the storyline plays out, but it won’t be long until Steve Burton is back on screen where he belongs.
