General Hospital alum Tyler Christopher’s tragic cause of death has finally been revealed. The actor and father of two passed away on Halloween 2023. At the time, it seemed to be a cardiac situation, and now, everything has been confirmed. Read on for all of the details.
GH Tyler Christopher’s Tragic Cause Of Death
Soap fans have been talking about the epidemic of young soap actors passing away lately. Alec Musser just died at the age of 50 while Billy Miller passed away last year at 43. Both took their own lives which was absolutely devastating. Then, there was Tyler Christopher who originated the role of Nikolas Cassadine on General Hospital. He was only 50 when he died on Halloween in 2023. The Daytime Emmy winner was also on Days of Our Lives, as well for a short time. Yet, it was the way he played Nikolas that had soap fans mesmerized. Now, nearly three months later, his untimely cause of death has been revealed.
According to TMZ, Christopher had alcohol in his system and suffocated to his death. The technical description is such: “positional asphyxia due to acute alcohol intoxication.” Additionally, Christopher suffered from “coronary artery atherosclerosis.” That is defined by Johns Hopkins Medicine:
“Atherosclerosis thickening or hardening of the arteries. It is caused by a buildup of plaque in the inner lining of an artery.”
So, technically, his heart was a contributing factor to his passing but not the main reason why he died at 50. However, Tyler’s death is completely an accident and it was not something he did to himself. Yet, he did have a history of substance issues. In 2019, Tyler Christopher was in an Uber when he was arrested for public intoxication after falling asleep.
The year he passed away, he was arrested again for possible intoxication at an airport. Unfortunately, it ended up being part of the reason he is no longer here but hopefully, he is no longer in pain or suffering.
Sadness All Around
When Tyler Christopher passed away, it was his co-star, Maurice Benard who broke the news. Continued tributes came in from other cast members who had worked with him including Jonathan Jackson. Jackson had played Lucky Spencer when Christopher joined General Hospital. Fans immediately took to Twitter/X to share their condolences when they learned how he died:
