John McCook Shares Retirement News

John McCook knew Eric Forrester’s fate but had to keep a lid on it. But Eric’s near-death experience rattled soap opera fans. Would a soap really kill off such a legendary character while the actor was still alive?

He spoke to soaps.com about his future plans. B&B fans can rest assured that if the actor has his way, he’ll be on the soap for as long as possible.

“From my point of view, I’ll be working right up until they drag me out of here,” McCook said about his future on the daytime drama.

The longtime soap actor took the chance to gush about his job. “I celebrate, privately, every day that I have this job. It’s fun, it’s creative, I like the people that I work with.”

Much like Dolly Parton, he never plans to retire. About the idea of retiring, the actor said, “Until I can no longer remember lines or have some kind of physical limitation, I have no reason to stop working!”

Off-Screen Drama

Eric and his portrayer might be safe from the chopping block, but the soap did recently sack a fan favorite. Krista Allen, who took over as Taylor Hayes, was unexpectedly let go in 2023.
