Cameron Mathison Loses His ‘Best Buddy’ To Cancer
On Tuesday, Cameron Mathison went to Instagram to reveal that he had lost his beloved dog Red to cancer. The Hannah Swensen Mysteries star shared a heartfelt message to his fans about the loss of his beloved Doberman.
So incredibly sad to say our sweet Red has lost his battle with cancer. Fortunately he passed away peacefully while sleeping 🙏🏼
Along with this announcement, Mathison shared a reel of photos and videos of him, his wife, Vanessa, son, Lucas, and daughter, Leila, with Red. This sweet boy was a big part of their lives.
Cam shared that “He was truly my best buddy and was such a huge part of our family.” The GH star included a sweet story that Red “would run to our driveway fence and kiss me through the bars before I came through the gate. Every single day 🥲”
The Home & Family alum concluded, “So so many great memories…grateful for all of them ❤️ I miss you already sweet boy.”

More Details About Red’s Cancer
What do we know about Red’s cancer? Back in May, Cameron Mathison spoke to the Hallmarkies Podcast about Red’s cancer. Red had Multiple Myeloma. He shared some specific details about his beloved dog’s diagnosis. Red’s cancer was on his spine and in his bone marrow.
The treatment that his veterinarian prescribed was pain medication. Therefore, his sweet dog could continue to live a vital life. However, because the pain was in his spine, he soon lost the ability to use his back legs.
Using a special device with wheels allowed the 11-year-old dog to continue to join Cameron outside for some quality time. However, the Canadian-born actor did understand that Red’s prognosis was not good. They were making adjustments to make sure Red was comfortable.

Red Was There When Cameron Mathison Had Cancer
The Mathison family got Red as a puppy. Therefore, he was there for Cameron when he went through his battle with cancer a few years ago. In one of his social media updates, the General Hospital star admitted that he could empathize with what his beloved pup was going through. “As a cancer survivor it’s so hard to see others receive that dreaded diagnosis.”
Therefore, Cameron never seemed to take their time together for granted. Red was an important member of their family, and they loved and cared for him until the end.
