Did Showtime Renew ‘Shameless’ For Season 12?
Wait, did Showtime renew Shameless for Season 12? A photo and a news article are making rounds in Facebook fan groups dedicated to the series with a shocking claim. They are claiming Shameless Season 12 has been given a green light.
Are fans of one of Showtime’s most popular scripted shows getting another season and new episodes? TV Shows Ace decided to take a closer look.
Recap: When Did Shameless Season 11 Happen?
Shameless was a comedic family drama that ran for 11 seasons from January 9, 2011, to April 11, 2021. Developed by John Wells, the series told the story of the chaotic Gallagher family. Fans were heartbroken when they learned the series was coming to an end with Season 11. They, however, were thrilled that Season 11 happened to give the series closure.
Ultimately, Season 11 ended with the father of the Gallagher children — Frank — getting COVID-19 and passing away. The final episode featured him alone in a hospital passing away from a virus that he had previously insisted was a hoax.
Fans had pretty mixed feelings about how the series ended. Many believed that if the pandemic hadn’t happened the series would have continued. Several fans had issues with Emmy Rossum not making an appearance in the final season of the series.
Furthermore, there were also several who would have preferred to see Frank’s children react to his passing. Others, however, thought it was fitting for Frank to die alone given the kind of person he was.
Did Showtime Renew For Season 12?
As much as Shameless fans would love for Showtime to renew the series for Season 12, a renewal just doesn’t make a lot of sense. While fans had differing opinions on the finale, John Wells did an incredible job of bringing the series to a pretty solid conclusion. So, most agree it would be a bit of a shame for the door to be re-opened after it was closed.
Furthermore, the report claiming the series was renewed has Frank Gallagher included in the cast photo. As fans know, Frank passed away in the Series Finale. So, the show being revived for Season 12 wouldn’t happen with him on the cast list. Likewise, the photo also featured Emmy Rossum. Fans also don’t believe she would come back and revive her role if the show came back since she didn’t come back for the finale.
Realizing the report making rounds on social media was a hoax, Shameless fans admit they were devastating. Fortunately, fans can head to Netflix or Paramount (which combined with Showtime a while back) to stream all 11 seasons of Shameless. For now, however, there is very little chance of this series making any type of comeback.
Did you clock the report claiming Shameless was renewed for Season 12? Are you bummed to learn it was fake news? Share your thoughts in the comments. And, let us know if you think this show should be brought back or if John Wells should consider a spin-off.
