Yellowstone is coming to CBS for the first time. Although the series already has four and a half seasons, CBS will start with Season 1, Episode 1, entitled “Daybreak.” CBS will be airing episodes that Paramount viewers have already seen. This is a great opportunity for new fans to see the series that stars Kevin Costner as John Dutton III.

The series is about the largest ranch in the United States. It is located in Montana, right next to the Yellowstone National Park. Nearby is an Indian reservation. The series is centered on John, as well as his three children, Beth, Jamie, and Kayce.

The Duttons are dealing with the people and obstacles who are trying to take away their way of life. But can John Dutton and his family overcome these obstacles, or will they lose it all?

Who Is Taylor Sheridan?

Taylor Sheridan is the former actor, now writer, and showrunner who created Yellowstone. According to a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter, he always pictured Kevin Costner as John Dutton.

Originally, the network formerly known as HBO was interested in developing the series. However, they didn’t like the character of Beth Dutton. She is the kind of person who says what everyone thinks but never dares to stay out loud.

In the end, this worked out great for him as Paramount decided that they wanted to make the dramatic western.

Sheridan created the series based on his youth growing up on a ranch. He has often stated that Yellowstone is a “Western Godfather.”

Yellowstone Is A Lot Like Dallas

Back in the 80s, the CBS series Dallas was the top hit. The question “Who shot J.R.?” was headline-grabbing. Nowadays, everyone knows who John or Beth Dutton are, just as everyone knew who J.R. and Sue Ellen Ewing were over 40 years ago.

While Dallas took place around the affluent family of Texas oil magnates, the Kevin Costner-led series is located away from the city, on a huge ranch, but still dealing with the same sorts of business issues.

Next, like Dallas, Yellowstone has a lot of soapy elements in it. There is competition and drama. Moreover, business and romance can be intermingled.

Most of all, both series are about family.  Larry Hagman’s J.R. Ewing and Kevin Costner’s John Dutton are two different sorts of patriarchs. While both actors play ruthless leads, they live their own codes. Family and business come first. They are not two separate things. Anyone or thing that crosses either won’t be around for very long.

However, the biggest difference is that the Taylor Sheridan-created series is much more violent. Because the series is now on network television instead of cable, they have made some mild edits to remove bad language, nudity, and extreme violence.

How To Watch Yellowstone Seasons 1-5A?

Some CBS viewers may start to watch Yellowstone Season 1 and want to binge-watch everything that is out instead of waiting every week to watch it on CBS. How can they do this? Currently, Seasons 1-5A is available on Peacock.

The reason the Paramount series is streaming on a competitor’s platform is that they did not have Paramount+ set up when the first season of the Kevin Costner-led series came out. Peacock was very lucky to grab the top cable show.

However, there are prequel spinoffs with Dutton’s ancestors. Both 1883 starring Tim McGraw and Faith Hill, and 1923, starring Harrison Ford and Helen Mirren, are available to stream on Paramount+.

Are you now convinced to watch Yellowstone on CBS?
