During Live With Kelly and Mark on Monday, Kelly Ripa shared a memory about her marriage to Mark Consuelos. Undeniably, the couple was excited about getting married. So much so, that Kelly Ripa skipped her bachelorette party to make a run for the alter. Of course, young loves, Kelly Ripa and Mark Consuelos met in 1995 while working on the soap opera All My Children. Without reservation, Mark Consuelos quickly proposed one year after they met. The smitten couple took off, not even waiting 24 hours before finding wedded bliss in Las Vegas.

Throw Caution To The Wind

Kelly Ripa revisited the details from the happy occasion. Ripa told Ryan Seacrest that they spent a total of $179 on their wedding. This unimaginable total even included airfare – wow! To clarify, they used frequent flier miles left over from a previously canceled trip, but that is pretty incredible. Without delay, they leaped even with a snowstorm and wintery weather attempting to stand in the way.

“It was ’96 guys, remember the winter of ’96? The winter of ’96 is in the record books as the most miserable, it was an endless winter, and it was a snowstorm when we left,” Ripa reminisced. “And we looked at the weather because we thought about going to City Hall but that was still cold and miserable, whereas Las Vegas, it was 85 degrees and sunny. [We thought,] ‘Let’s do that!’ And so that’s what we did.”

Kelly Ripa’s Spontaneous Adventure

Kelly Ripa acknowledged that the pair most likely went through with the marriage primarily because it was so spontaneous. Knowingly, they may have talked themselves out of it if they had waited. Jumping on a flight right away gave them the perfect gusto to press through any kind of wedding jitters. However, in the rush to get down the aisle, Kelly Ripa skipped many of the traditions generally accompanying a wedding. The fast turnaround didn’t give her time to have the customary bachelorette party.

It’s My Party, I Can Skip If I Want To

Kelly Ripa never got a bachelorette party, however, she says she doesn’t regret it. “You know me, pageantry is not my thing,” Ripa admitted. “I wanted the marriage, not the big wedding. I don’t need a bachelorette party to tell me that I’m about to get married because I’m about to get married and here I am on the airplane, you know what I mean? That’s my bachelorette party.”

Kelly Ripa said she truly doesn’t understand bachelorette parties anyway. “Sashes, hats, penis hats, hats with penises. Which, to me, it never makes any sense,” she chuckled. “I don’t understand what it means. I don’t know! I don’t get it!”

Ripa sincerely doesn’t seem disappointed about missing that opportunity. She said, “And I can honestly say, we do not feel less married. As a matter of fact, we feel more married than those people, because we’re still married.”

Not following tradition seems to have worked out just fine for these two. Happy their spontaneity paid off in their story. Do you have a story about off-the-beaten-path weddings? How important is tradition in these events to you? Give some feedback in the comments.
