Shannen Doherty Gives Intimate Look At Her Brain Surgery
Shannen Doherty has shared her journey with cancer since she discovered she had breast cancer. Her social media posts give her fans an open view of her life and the journey she is on. Her new post portrays an intimate view of what her life is like at the moment.
Most recently, the Charmed star shared a video on Instagram taken as she was about to go into surgery. It featured Doherty and her doctor discussing what would happen in her pending surgery. Her followers see her in a bed with a hair cap and mask on and a monitor around her upper arm.
The video was shared only recently but it is dated January 16, 2023.
Her Healthcare Professional Tells Her What To Expect
Shannen shared a post that featured a video from earlier this year where she was preparing to go into surgery. She said there was a tumor in her head and they wanted to remove it. The doctors would send the tumor in for a biopsy.

In the video Shannen Doherty shared with her fans, she was laying in bed discussing what would happen during the surgery. The healthcare professional explained how they would position her in the best manner for the surgical team to operate.
“Sometimes things can get irritated,” the healthcare professional told Shannen when she joked about knowing that her foot was fine before she went into surgery. She continued, “We’ll position you in the best position for surgery…and then the GPS stickers will come off.”
Shannen Admits to Being “Petrified”
In her post on Instagram, Shannen Doherty admits her fears. “I am clearly trying to be brave but I am petrified. The fear was overwhelming to me.”
Besides the obvious bad outcomes, Shannen was also worried about her mom. Over the years, Shannen has shared several pictures with her mother. She worried how it would affect her mother if the outcome wasn’t as planned or if anything were to happen to her.
Another concern Shannen had when going into surgery was that she might not be the same person when she came out of surgery.
“This is what cancer can look like,” Shannen Doherty said at the end of her Instagram post.
Shannen Has Had A Long Battle With Cancer
According to TMZ, Doherty was first diagnosed with breast cancer in 2015. After a period of treatment in 2015 and 2016 for breast cancer (including a mastectomy and chemotherapy), Shannen went into remission. In 2020, the cancer returned as a more serious stage 4 cancer.
Recently, she shared that the cancer has spread to her brain. After a CT scan earlier in 2023, Shannen Doherty began radiation treatment.
Shannen continues to work through her treatment. She recently did a Beverly Hills 90210 reboot to play her character, Brenda Walsh. She’s also been a guest star on the Netflix series, Riverdale.
