HBO Delays The ‘Euphoria’ Release Date, Angering Fans

Fans are not happy after HBO announced that the third season of Euphoria has been delayed. The hit drama that aired on HBO Max and will present its third season on the newly renamed Max will not arrive anytime soon. Now, many fans are speaking out about it.

Euphoria remains one of HBO’s most popular scripted shows. It stars Zendaya as a teenage drug addict and her friends in school, all of who have significant problems of their own. The second season ended on February 27, 2022. Yet, over a year later, fans are still waiting for the third season. That wait will be a lot longer for fans of the show.

The Writer’s Guild of America (WGA) is currently on strike, seeking better treatment and fair wages in the era of streaming networks. The studios have yet to offer a fair deal, so the strike might last a lot longer than expected, with HBO’s head of drama Francesca Orsi telling Deadline that he sees it possibly lasting up to six to nine months. She said that HBO is not prepared if it stretches out that long. Furthermore, there is a chance the directors and actor’s guilds will join the strike when their deals expire this summer.

That would shut Hollywood and television studios down and several shows would end up pushed back and delayed as a result. The Game Of Thrones prequel A Knight Of The Seven Kingdoms: The Hedge Knight shut down its writers’ room. Writing for The Last of Us and White Lotus also stopped. As for Euphoria, it has also stopped production at the moment. Euphoria is one of those that we had begun writing in tandem with post-production on [The] Idol but at this point, we don’t have countless scripts,” Orsi said. She said they can’t even start shooting yet as a result and the release date is now ideally set for 2025.

Fans not happy about 2025 release date for Euphoria

The news of the WGA strike has hit fans in different ways. Some fans seem to support creatives as they want fair wages. Others just care about getting their shows back in a timely manner, not caring about the writers or their cause. On Twitter, fans have spoken up, with one writing, “I simply can not wait this long” and another saying, “Are you kidding that’s so far away.”

Another wrote that it isn’t “that hard of a show to make” not understand why it takes so long. They decided it is “no longer interesting.” Euphoria has always been a long wait for fans. Season 1 arrived in 2019 and it was a long wait two-and-a-half wait for the second season to arrive. It will be three years between the second and third seasons. On top of Euphoria, Zendaya also has a big movie career, with Dune 2 hitting theaters this year.
