Fans of the anime Masamune-kun’s Revenge R just got the official announcement about the delay of Season 2’s release. Where did this delay come from?
Masamune-kun’s Revenge originally ran its first and only season back in 2017. Since then, the manga continued to publish new chapters for another year. The fanbase is still strong and has been waiting on the release of new anime content for the story. That content was set to arrive in April, but, obviously, that never wound up arriving within the timeframe. A new commercial for the long-awaited second season now has a new release date.
The Delay
The delay in Masamune-kun’s Revenge R Season 2 comes as the result of a COVID-19 complication. The announcement of this COVID delay came via the official website for the anime. The new commercial showcasing content from Season 2 puts the new release date on July 3rd.
It’s unfortunate that after such a long 6-year gap that fans are hit with yet another delay in new episodes. But, it seems like this date should be firm this time around. COVID delays are becoming more and more rare, although not impossible, especially in a country like Japan which was much more stern with lockdown policies.
Masamune-kun’s Revenge is a story about a high-school guy, Masamune, who has a revenge plot. The plot is against a girl, Aki, who once bullied and gave him a terrible nickname. Now Masamune has gotten in shape and is no longer recognizable by Aki. So Masamune forms a plot to seduce Aki and then reject her advances and publicly humiliate her as she did to him. The question is whether this revenge will be everything Masamune is hoping it will be.
The author of the story is Hakuzi Takeoka, who isn’t known for much more in the anime or manga scene at this moment. But, while the main story is over in the manga, there is supposed to be a spin-off manga that will begin publishing sometime later this year.
Masamune-kun’s Revenge
It’s been 6 years since the first season and thus far only season of Masamune-kun’s Revenge. The manga put out its last chapter in 2018 and has a total of 10 volumes. That means there should be more than enough content for at least a third season, considering the seasons are only 12 episodes each.
Hopefully, the wait for future seasons of Masamune-kun’s Revenge won’t be quite as arduous as the wait for Season 2.
Masamune-kun’s Revenge R Season 2 will be premiering July 3rd on Crunchyroll in North America. Season 1 is out on the platform now in its entirety.
