‘Bringing Up Bates’ Fans Beg For Answers 1 Year After Cancelation
Bringing Up Bates was officially canceled nearly a year ago, but fans are still begging for answers. The cancelation boggled fans’ minds, especially because Season 11 was already filmed and produced. What happened that caused the network to pull the plug so suddenly? Fans are continuing to speculate and share their theories. Keep reading for all of the details.
UPtv pulls the plug.
On Jan. 18, 2022, the news broke that UPtv would not be airing Season 11 of the Bates family’s show. Based on the details revealed, it sounds like the season was already filmed and ready to go. It was supposed to premiere in February 2022. To this day, UPtv has not revealed why they opted to cancel the series. After all, it was one of the network’s top-performing series.
In their statement, the network wrote, “We will not be premiering Bringing Up Bates season 11 on UPtv as planned as we will be focusing our programming in 2022 on movies and a new scripted series to be announced soon.”
The cancelation came just after Carlin Bates shared a clip from a family game of charades. During the game, Lawson Bates and a couple of the younger boys are acting out “deer hunting.” However, someone seated on the couch yells out, “George Floyd!”
This angered fans and the family received a lot of backlash. Because of this, some fans believe this could have prompted the cancelation, though it has not been confirmed by the network. Carlin quickly deleted the video, but not before her followers saved it. She later attempted to issue an apology via DM and tried to buy back fans’ forgiveness.

Since the show was canceled a year ago, fans have been waiting for answers from UPtv. On Reddit, a fan recently started a new poll and asked others to vote for the reason they think the show might have been canceled. Nearly 2,000 fans voted in the poll. 930 of them think it had something to do with the game of charades or Lawson and Trace Bates’ rumored appearance at the Jan. 6 U.S. Capitol insurrection.
The next most popular response is “Something really bad that we don’t know about was discovered by UPTV,” which has 473 votes.
What do you think is the real reason why UPTV cancelled "Bringing Up Bates" despite having a whole new season filmed and ready to go?

Others think the Bringing Up Bates cancelation could have been caused by Josh Duggar’s legal issues. The Duggars and Bates have been friends for years, so it’s possible that UPtv didn’t want this negative association. One fan said, “The Josh Duggar case was gaining a lot of momentum; and like it or not, these two families will forever be very intertwined.”
It’s unclear if Bates fans will ever learn the truth about what happened to the show. At this time, they are still asking questions and waiting for an explanation.
