Anime is coming in hot in 2023 with all kinds of new material for new and veteran fans. We’re going to be getting new seasons of some of the best shows in anime right now, along with new titles that will hopefully blow us away. Here are a few of the major releases coming very soon this year for you to look out for.
New Anime January 7th: Nier Automata
The popular Square Enix video game series Nier: Automata is finally getting its own anime series in 2023. The series will follow 2B through the post-apocalyptic robot world that gamers everywhere fell in love with 5 years ago when the first game in the series came out. Having an anime adaptation to expand the story and build upon the lore of the video games is a great thing. It’s not often that great Japanese video games get great anime adaptations (Looking at you, Final Fantasy) so hopefully, we get just that with the first season of Nier: Automata Ver1.1a.
Nier: Automata Ver1.1a is premiering its debut episode on January 7th. It’s coming out on Crunchyroll in the US.
New Anime January 9th: Vinland Saga
Vinland Saga Season 1 was one of the most exciting seasons of anime in the last decade. An absolute splash of a debut season that left fans begging for more. We’re finally getting more with Season 2 just around the corner. We’ll be delving back into the medieval European world of Vikings and bloody Nordic lore as we continue to follow the story of Thorfinn.
Vinland Saga is premiering the debut episode of Season 2 on January 9th. It’s coming out on Netflix and Crunchyroll in the US.
New Anime Out Now: Spy Classroom
Finally, Spy Classroom has the potential to be a big name in the anime world. But there is a concern that the platform it’s coming out on could see it die in obscurity. The anime is based on a popular light novel series about a world where espionage dominates society. The first season is coming out on HIDIVE.
The platform poses itself as Crunchyroll’s biggest competitor in the anime market. But if we’re being honest, it’s not a particularly close race. Hopefully, Spy Classroom is good enough as a series to warrant its own fanbase regardless. It definitely has a lot of competition in the spy world of anime right now with Spy x Family dominating much of the internet’s attention right now.
Spy Classroom has its debut episode out now and will continue to premiere Season 1 throughout the upcoming months. It’s available for streaming on HIDIVE in the US.
