Vinland Saga Season 1 had fans and critics alike raving over its distinctive style and powerful plot. It is a revenge story like no other, and it is finally back. It’s been a long wait. A 3-year hiatus as fans have been hoping for any kind of news from MAPPA, the studio responsible for Season 2. Finally, after so much time hoping for the return of Thorfinn and his quest for vengeance, it is almost here. And ahead of the rapidly-approaching premiere for Season 2 of Vinland Saga, we just got a brand new trailer. Let’s talk about some of the details and what we can expect to see when the new episodes begin to premiere.
Vinland Saga Season 2
The new trailer is pretty brief and doesn’t contain much about the actual story of Season 2. It is mostly a series of cut-together action shots showcasing the amazing artwork of MAPPA in Season 2. The only words in the trailer come in at the beginning. We can hear Thorfinn say (In Japanese) “I have to fight the true battle. We’ll be reborn”.
We can see major returning characters like Canute and, of course, Thorfinn himself in the trailer. Thorfinn appears much older and more mature than in the early episodes of Season 1. The end of the trailer shows off the Season 2 premiere date, setting it for January 9th of next year. This gives us less than 3 weeks until we’re finally thrown back into the world of Scandinavian England, and fans couldn’t be more hyped. From the looks of the trailer, we can expect zombies, fire, and even more bloody fights than we got in the first season. Season 1 was called by many critics the best anime of 2019.
Back To The Norse
Vinland Saga is a Norse epic set in medieval England under Viking Danish control. This incredibly unique setup for an anime, combined with its brutality and the beauty of its art, has made Vinland Saga one of the most acclaimed new anime. In just a single season the show became one of the most talked about things in the anime world. It’s seeming like Season 2 is certain to secure the show’s legacy as an all-time anime to remember. The manga, from author Makoto Yukimura, is still ongoing with 26 volumes and counting, as well. So Season 2 will be far from the end, and we can expect far more Vinland Saga in the future.
Vinland Saga Season 2 is officially premiering on January 9th, 2023. Season 1 is available to stream in the US on Crunchyroll.
