‘Blue Exorcist’ Returns With A New Anime Series After 5 Years
The dark fantasy series Blue Exorcist will soon have a new anime. The 2023 Jump Festa has brought several big announcements for manga/anime lovers including the return of Blue Exorcist. Based on the manga written by Kazue Kato, the series has inspired two anime series excluding the new one. So, when will this anime series premiere? Where can you watch it? New Blue Exorcist Anime Is The Third In The Series
Blue Exorcist’s first anime series, produced by A-1 Pictures, was broadcast from April to October 2011 with 25 episodes and one OVA. Later in 2012, the manga inspired a movie titled Blue Exorcist: The Movie. In 2017, the manga got another anime adaptation that was licensed by Aniplex Of America with a total of 12 episodes and an OVA. At the time of writing, the Blue Exorcist manga has more than 25 Million copies in circulation which makes it one of the best-selling manga series.

Now, the manga is getting a third anime series that was announced by Jump Festa 2023 on Sunday. A short teaser trailer along with a key visual was also a part of the announcement post on Twitter as reported by Anime News Network. More information on the staff and cast will be announced at a later date. It was unclear if the new Blue Exorcist anime would be a continuation of the previous anime adaptations.
Blue Exorcist Anime Is A Fresh Reboot
Later, the author Kato posted a celebratory illustration message on Twitter with the comment that the new anime would be an original. She confirmed that it would have no relation to the previous adaptations. Also, the upcoming anime was referred to by the title, Blue Exorcist TV Anime New Series.

Given how long it has been since the previous two anime adaptations were released, a fresh new adaptation makes a lot of sense. This new anime reboot will provide fans an opportunity to see something that is accurate to the manga series. Not just that, the manga series also saw its own halts like the anime series. Although the manga has been serialized since 2009, Kato put the series on hiatus in July 2021. This was so she could work on the adaptation of horror novels by Fuyumi Ono titled Strange Tales From The Handy Shop Karuyaka.
When Will The Blue Exorcist Anime Premiere?
The manga resumed earlier this year in May which was followed by the latest anime series announcement. As of now, there is no official premiere date for the upcoming Blue Exorcist anime. The manga also inspired a mobile game, Blue Exorcist: Damned Chord. However, the game was later canceled out of development in 2020 with a mobile MMORPG project slated to replace it. However, there is no update on the game either.
