Professional dancer Cheryl Burke definitely had one rollercoaster ride of a year. In 2022, she divorced her husband Matthew Lawrence and also retired from Dancing With The Stars. Although the journey was long and difficult at times, the experience has definitely made Cheryl a stronger person.
As 2022 draws to a close, Cheryl Burke is ready to leave this chapter of her life in the past and move forward. She says she will be in tears tomorrow night as she watches the ball drop. Keep reading to see why.
Cheryl Burke couldn’t be happier to step into 2023
Although Cheryl Burke decided to leave DWTS behind, she says she is grateful for all the people she met and the memories she made. During her time on the show, she had 26 dance partners. She took home the Mirrorball Trophy twice and went to the finale a handful of times.
But now, Cheryl Burke is embarking on a brand new adventure. She’s entering 2023 with confidence and passion. And if anyone sees her in tears, she wants them to know that they are tears of joy.
“When you see me crying at 11:59 p.m. on NYE don’t think it’s because I’m sad,” the 38-year-old dancer captioned a TikTok this week. “It’s because I f—king MADE IT through the year that did everything it could to try and break me, and there were a lot of moments when I thought I would but here I AM. Ready to move forward, to no longer be defined by my past, and SO ready to start the next chapter of my life. 2023, LET’S SHOW’EM HOW IT’S DONE!”

The reasons behind her split with Matthew Lawrence weren’t immediately clear. However, many fans highly suspect that infidelity was involved.
The professional dancer is gunning for the head judge’s seat
Cheryl Burke is no longer a pro dancer on DWTS. However, she isn’t quite sure that she wants to completely part ways with the show. Head judge Len Goodman also retired from the show at the end of Season 31, leaving his seat wide open. Cheyrl has made it absolutely clear that she wants that spot.
“They are very well aware that I want that seat. It’s not that I just want it, I just know that I can contribute because I am an expert in ballroom dancing. I can say that with confidence,” the dancer said to Variety in an exclusive interview. “I can also say that my teaching methods haven’t been known to being sugar coated. … Len is really technical and really tells you how it is. That is my style. It would be nice to see two women on the panel!”
