DWTS pro Cheryl Burke announced this week that she would officially retire after tonight’s season finale. She’s teased her retirement for the past several seasons, but this year it looks like things are official. She announced her retirement on social media before several news outlets picked up the message.

However, she’s definitely not tired of Dancing With The Stars. She just has her eyes on a brand new role. Head judge Len Goodman will also retire after the finale tonight. Cheryl thinks she deserves a chance to fill his shoes.

Cheryl Burke would love to continue with DWTS in some capacity

Dancing With The Stars will be back on Disney+ again next fall. But the cast will definitely look a little bit different. It’s not yet clear if the show will move ahead with three judges, or tap someone new to fill Len Goodman’s empty seat. The show has done just fine with three judges for many seasons.

However, Cheryl Burke has continuously expressed interest in having a seat at the judges’ table. Now that she’s moving on from being a pro, she’d love to be a judge.

“They are very well aware that I want that seat. It’s not that I just want it, I just know that I can contribute because I am an expert in ballroom dancing. I can say that with confidence,” Cheryl told Variety this week. “I can also say that my teaching methods haven’t been known to being sugar coated. … Len is really technical and really tells you how it is. That is my style. It would be nice to see two women on the panel!”

The dancer went on to say that she isn’t sure what production wants to do yet. For now, they’re focused on the finale and then the upcoming tour.

“I would love to still be a part of the family, I just would love a different role on the show, just like anybody after 26 seasons of having that same title,” she continued. “I think it’s important, for me at least, to feel like, okay, let’s grow together as a brand and also for me as a person. If that’s not with the show, then I’m moving forward and I’m moving on.”

The Season 31 finale will give the dancer a proper send-off

The Dancing With The Stars finale kicks off tonight at 8 PM eastern time. Tune into Disney+ tonight to catch Cheryl Burke’s final dance and Len Goodman’s last episode too. At the end of the night, there will be one couple who takes home the Mirrorball Trophy. Stay tuned and see who wins it all!
