The series delivered a thrilling round of stories from an alternate reality featuring the voices of almost all on-screen actors from MCU’s history. What If..? marked the first of several animation outings that are set to arrive at Disney+ over the next few years. On Twitter, KC Walsh, an insider, and quasi-Marvel expert revealed that Marvel Studios Animation is currently undergoing several internal layoffs. The insider also revealed that Marvel won’t green-light new seasons of animated shows if it doesn’t see positive results from the ones that are already in the works. As per The Direct, this is mostly due to the fact that animated series take up a long duration to develop. So, this means that Marvel’s new venture into the animated storytelling universe could be over even before it gets off the ground.

Spider-Man: Sophomore Year was also announced at the Comic-Con with a fresh set of creative crew. However, putting together an entirely new crew amid cutbacks might not be something Marvel will try at this point in time. With Freshman Year at least a year away from its premiere, the second season is most likely to be on the chopping block.
Brian Kesinger’s Unnamed Disney+ Project Might Be Axed
Another unique entry that might not make it to the streaming platform is X-Men ’97. This is a direct continuation of the original X-Men: The Animated Series that aired in the 90s. If it does debut, it will be the first X-Men-centric project under the Marvel Studios umbrella. Although Season 1 is set to arrive in 2023, no news of a second season is out yet.

The last one on the list is an unnamed project by Brian Kesinger. No news of when this animated series will go into development has been specified yet. Best known for his work on Zootopia and Big Hero 6, this new project by Brian might be a part of the drastic cuts being made to the animation department.
