Celebrity Jeopardy! may have crossed a major line with a Brian Laundrie clue. The spinoff of the traditional game is hosted by Mayim Bialik. It has been scrutinized for its format and other issues viewers have had. However, it was a clue in a recent episode that caused some serious backlash. Why? Read on for more details.

Celebrity Jeopardy! In Hot Water For Brian Laundrie Clue

In an episode of the spinoff, Brian Laundrie was used as a clue. He was accused of killing his fiance, Gabby Petito in 2021. Unfortunately, he took his own life, as well so he was never taken to justice. It has been a nightmare for both families and now, they are reliving all of this in a multitude of ways. Last month, Lifetime premiered a movie, The Gabby Petito Story. Then, according to TMZ, Laundrie was made into a clue for the celebrity version of Jeopardy!

The clue read this: “In 2021 Fugitive Brian Laundrie Ended His Days In Fla.’s Myakkahatchee Creek Area, Home to These Long & Toothy Critters.” As for the answer, it was “alligators.” This is clearly inappropriate, no matter what the feelings on Laundrie. Now, the family of Brian Laundrie is seeking an apology. Per their lawyer, they said this: “The entire Laundrie family is appalled and concurs with all of the comments on social media on how distasteful this was. I believe an apology is due.”

Social media did not hold back either. “Okay, that jeopardy question about Brian Laundrie felt pretty messed up and rather un-jeopardy-like,” one person tweeted. Another tweeted: “The Brian Laundrie clue was insensitive and inappropriate. Do better.” Finally, someone else called it “sick” as well and shamed the show.

Celebrity Jeopardy! is currently on hiatus for the time being. It will have 13 episodes in total, which started on September 25th. The latest episode aired on November 6th and it will return in January. However, it is unclear if the show has apologized yet for the clue. Furthermore, it is unclear if they are in the process of reevaluating their clues to be more politically correct. Jeopardy! was actually called out a short time ago for giving time-sensitive clues making viewers think that they were watching repeats.

The way that the show is filmed can cause an issue as it is done a month or so in advance. Therefore, clues can age by the time of airing. It appears that since Alex Trebek passed and Ken Jennings/Mayim Bialik took over, it just is not the same. Have you noticed a difference in the quality of the series? More so, what are your thoughts on the Brian Laundrie clue?
