‘Yellowstone’ Spinoff ‘1923’ & Further Expanding Dutton Story
Currently, Yellowstone creator Taylor Sheridan is spinning a lot of plates. He is now the showrunner to the new series Lioness, which he co-created with Mystery 101 star Jill Wagner. Furthermore, the premiere of Season 5 is in mid-November.
However, his new spinoff, 1923 appears to expand into a bigger universe than was previously expected. What is the latest news?
There Will Be A Change To Yellowstone Spinoff 1923
According to Deadline, the Yellowstone prequel spinoff, 1923, is going to be expanded. According to the publication, which was tipped by The Dish, Sheridan’s limited series “has turned out to be such a sprawling saga that he’ll need two seasons to get it done.”
Currently, the new limited series spinoff that stars an impressive cast that includes Harrison Ford and Helen Mirren is eight episodes long. However, Sheridan wants to expand this into two seasons of eight episodes each.
Moreover, there is no confirmation that this is a done deal. The folks at Paramount still need to sign deals with the cast.
While this piece of information is newsworthy, it should not be a surprise to anyone that is following the Dutton offshoot series. That is because the original title of this series was 1932. That is because Sheridan had initially planned on focusing on the Great Depression.
Not long after, Sheridan must have realized that starting during the year of 1923 was an opportunity to tell more Dutton stories, including a Dutton that just returned from the horrors of WWI.
We’re Not In Montana Anymore
Although the main location of the Yellowstone spinoff 1923 is in Montana, they are also filming in other locations. Those locations include South Africa, Tanzania, and Malta.
Therefore, this tale will not just focus on the Dutton ranch.

Will There Be More Yellowstone Spinoffs?
The article also mentions that there could be even more spinoffs. They would include the 40s and the 60s. In both eras, the Duttons are trying to keep their ranch afloat.
The 1940s would include WW2, and the aftermath. On the other hand, the 60s would also be interesting, especially as Mad Men has been the pinnacle of showing the 60s. That is a challenge that Taylor Sheridan would certainly relish.
The 60s would include a young John Dutton, along with his father and likely his grandfather.
In addition, there are plans for yet another Yellowstone spinoff called 6666. This will be shot at the Four Sixes ranch. The show goes full circle, as this is where a great deal of 1883 was filmed.
When Does Yellowstone Season 5 Premiere?
The premiere of Yellowstone Season 5 is on Sunday, November 13, at 8 p.m., Eastern, on Paramount. This will be a two-hour supersized premiere.
Moreover, this is the premiere of the first half of Season 5. The season will be 14 episodes long, divided into two equal parts.
